mmboogie107 Posted February 16, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2006 This is my first time cruising and quite excited about the trip. When I booked someone had told me that HAL does a Chocolate Buffet. Does this buffet really exist??? I hope it does.

grannynurse Posted February 16, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2006 They used to have it as sort of a midnight buffet thing and called it a chocolate extravaganza . Some ships started to move it to afternoons. I know it still exists but I don't know in what form, what time, or how elaborate it is now. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 16, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Most of the ships now do a Dessert Extrvaganza which includes some chocolate desserts. Some ships have it in the afternoon - tea time - while others have it at night. Check your daily program - time will be listed there. It is held near the end of the cruise. shepp Posted February 16, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Worry not. Last month, I went to the dessert shindig on the Westerdam (late night but not midnight), and it featured enough heavy-on-the-chocolate desserts to send a small army into a diabetic coma. While a goodly number of the desserts could be found any day at the Lido, the presentation was spectacular. Unfortunately, the service wasn't - as many of the desserts were individually sliced and served, the lines moved glacially. I was afraid the ice sculptures would just be puddles by the time I got to the good stuff.
Old Salty Dog Posted February 19, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 19, 2006 The Westerdam does have a big desert buffet, heavy on chocolate, but not all chocolate like the NCL's Wind buffet. It was late, but not at midnight, and not all that crowded when we walked through and resisted all that temptation. This was last Sept. on the Baltic cruise. cruisecache&squash Posted February 19, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2006 The chocolate dipped strawberries are the best I've ever had in my life.
KalenaD Posted February 19, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 19, 2006 On our Westerdam cruise in Dec, we watched them pour a 5 gallon bucket of chocolate into a fountain, then go back for another, then watch the chocolate pour out of the top of the 3 foot tall fountain. It was so fun to watch them set up for the "dessert extravaganza". THEN we came back for a taste (or two, or was it three)
