Myvatn Nature Baths on our own

Our cruise stops in Akureryi and we’d like to visit the nature baths.  How difficult is it to get a taxi?  How much would it cost?

That's nearly an hour and a half ride.  Considering KEF to Reykjavik is about $130 taxi and is only 45 minutes or so, i would expect it to be double that cost.  Plus the return.

Can you rent a car for this excursion?  We loved the Myvatn baths, but the whole area is spectacular.

I’ll look into a car rental.

A rental car is definitely the best solution - will also make it possible to experience some of northern Iceland.
Just be aware that some roads in northern Iceland are very poor and it can be very difficult to calculate driving times - especially if you plan to visit the Goðafoss waterfall you have to calculate extra driving time.
