Border issue with Switch Health test

RCCL accepted our switch health antigen without issue.  It was checked at least 3 times before we boarded.  Each time they did give it a careful look.  We did preface each person by saying we were Canadian.

At our return land border crossing the agent didn't even look at our tests.  This is our third trip during the pandemic and I've yet to have our tests looked at on return OR our ArriveCAN.

The antigen test is not FDA approved but the LAMP test is. While all cruise lines require that self testing  be proctored, not all specify that the test must also be FDA approved.

Thanks Just looked yesterday RCCL says it needs to be FDA approved. It started to feeel like a little bite of a merry go round yesterday trying to figure out if switch was or wasn’t 😂

im leaning more and more towards cancelling that trip for now, and just sailing in and out of our hometown Vancouver this summer

I have no idea why we are discussing using Switch Health's RT-LAMP tests to board an RCL cruise.  Why won't you just get a free antigen test at a CVS or Walgreens on the day you arrive in the US with results in 15 minutes?

Well because as a Canadian, if we cross the border via land (which of course requires no testing), and happen to test positive on that free antigen then you would be in a jackpot.  Why not test from home before you go anywhere?  That way if you happen to test positive you can cancel back everything from home.

Canadians entering the US via air, need to provide a negative rapid test result before boarding the aircraft.

Sure, but that doesn't have anything to do with the RCL requirements.  You can get an antigen test for cheap at Walmart or Shoppers Drug Mart before entering the US (if you want your own peace of mind or if the airline requires it).

The RT-LAMP test kit is only useful on the way back when you can't find another test in a pinch.  Otherwise, you are spending $150 for a test that should take only 15 minutes and cost $0-$40.
