I’m cruising next month (april 30-may ) on the horizon and I’m bringing my 20 month old. Just found old they can’t play in the pool or splash pad. And camp ocean is closed for his age group due to Covid. Has anyone been on this ship with a child this age recently? What will I be able to do with him? Advice? Tips? I’m feeling discouraged….

I took my child on the Horizon around that age - pre-pandemic. Things won't be much different now for a child that age. For kids younger than 2 years old Camp Ocean isn't really in play other than for supervised play time (you need to be there) before the camp opens to 2+ ups and for odd paid babysitting hours which are very limited.

We spent a lot of time going around the ship listening to the live music on sea days as my kid loved to bop/dance to the music. One parent would hang out in the room during nap time so the other could have some free time. Same thing for the evening, one of us would stay in at bedtime while the other went to the show/casino, etc. You just need to figure out what works best for your situation.

We made sure to get off in each port, as most places did not have restrictions on swim diapers that the cruise line did. This will be hard now with the need to book a bubble tour. We cruised the Horizon in October with our now 4 year old, bubble tours were great to get us off the ship and to beaches. On the plus side kids that age are usually "free" on bubble tours. You buy tickets for the adult, and get a free voucher at the shore ex desk for kids.

Members of my family will be on a cruise in November when my granddaughter will be 26 months old.  My question is this - Carnival doesn't allow children in swim diapers to be in the kiddie pool or splash zone, but what about the toddler bathing suits with built in swim diapers?  Though I expect my granddaughter will be somewhat potty trained by then, I certainly know from experience that even "potty trained" 2 year-olds have accidents.  I would much rather have recently potty trained toddlers wearing swim diapers than not.

I plan to have her wear a swimsuit with the built in swim diaper and see how it goes.  I can't imagine anyone will be able to tell and it will make all of us feel more comfortable than continually asking her if she has to potty.

NO!!!  No one is worried about urine…it’s sterile unless you have an infection.  But if you/they poop in the diaper, water is still going to flow through it.  Think fecal teabag.  And feces aren’t sterile.  Doesn’t matter if the diaper contains the solids…water still flows through it.  EM
