Hi Everyone,

Heading to western Caribbean - Coco Cay, Cozumel, Cancun,Roatan. I prefer to use Rogers roaming but curious if anyone has any experience with this. I know I would only have service in port. Have you been able to access from the ship while in port? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I've used Rogers' Roam Like Home for a good number of years and use it rather than ships' wifi. As you say, you can only use it one you reach port, but then you can use it anywhere in the island/country you are visiting. We frequently rent a car and having the phone offers the convenience of mapping and the security of being able to reach out should something go wrong. And to answer your question, I've yet to visit a port where there was no available cell service while still aboard. Given cell tower ranges, you can usually have service quite some distance from port.

I use the Bell's program which is comparable to Roger's.

The only ports, from the ones you listed above, that I have been able to find the ships wifi was Cozumel.  I saw it on my phone while at Senior Frogs, but it would not connect.  While it is not on your sailing I could find it at Labadee, on Barefoot Beach, but with the same outcome.

Edit to add, while in port I shut off my wifi.  It saves my phone from continuously searching and drawing on the battery.

Yes, that's true, but nowhere near the drain that it used to be, and overall battery life keeps getting better. I never turn off my wifi at home when I'm out and about all day, and I never bother when travelling, but I've yet to have a problem with a dead phone. Still, it's a good tip, particularly for those with older phones or those who use them more than I do during the course of the day.
