Bruin Steve Posted February 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2006 There are so many hotels, I am having a hard time making a decision. Any suggestion, We will be there just two days before our cruise out of Dover. It all depends on what you are looking for in a hotel...Obviously, as you've noted, there is a wide selection... This last time we were there--before and after our Constellation British Isles/Norwegian Fjords cruise in and out of Dover, we stayed at the Rubens... http://www.rubenshotel.com/ It's a four-star hotel, very quaint, very British...Right across the street from the side of Buckingham Palace (It was originally built as housing for debutantes attending balls at the palace)...It is walking distance from Vicroria Station (One of the reasons we chose it--the train from Gatwick Airport pulls into Victoria and our transfer bus to and from Dover departed from Victoria Coach Station)...The hop-on-hop-off buses stop practically in front of the hotel...The room we had for our pre-cruise was a bit small, but we were pleasantly surprised when our post-cruise room turned out to be quite a bit bigger...The rooms are nicely appointed and have free tea with packaged scones and muffins and bottled water (all complimentary) within the room...The full English Breakfast, included with our room rate, was excellent...and there was also an included free "Welcome cocktail" at the bar...The air conditioning worked well (something we have found in the past not always to be the case in London--Time before, we stayed at the 3/4 star Best Western Paddington Court and it didn't even have Air Conditioning!)... Oh yeah, and Dave, the Concierge, was a riot! Our stay, booked well ahead, cost us a mere 109 pounds per night--a veritable bargain in the oft overpriced London...especially for such a well located hotel... I'd recommend it...
