DougMacP Posted June 12, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2022 Regents just cancelled our Edinburgh shore excursion to the Britannia in September claiming a vague “operational circumstances”. It appears there are two tender options, one in the harbor very close to the Britannia, the other out of town. Anyone know which spot the Splendor will use? We’ve decided to buy our Britannia tickets directly (much cheaper anyway), and also utilize the hop on hop off bus from the list of available excursion. Any one done the Britannia on their own before? If I should have asked the question in a different forum I apologize in advance.
cwn Posted June 12, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2022 We did on our own as part of a self diving trip 4-5 years ago. Bought tickets ahead of time for a morning tour. No crowd and an interesting tour not long but plenty of time to see everything. Some ship! If the timing for the HOHO gives you enough travel time that is a good idea. We did that in another port for a prison and it worked every well.
charltonkerry Posted June 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) Our trip to Britannia was cancelled recently when we went on a round Britain cruise with Regent. It was an easy walk from the tender dock, although made difficult by major road works, which closed a lot of paths and roads, probably around 20 minutes. We found it a very interesting visit with so much history still kept on board. Being an engineer I found the engine room fascinating and not to be missed, but the state rooms etc are all worth seeing. We were so pleased Regent cancelled and we went on our own, it gave you so much more time just to look and you wasn’t rushed. Without a tea break and excluding the walk allow 3 hours for the tour. We stopped for a sandwich and coffee which was very good and freshly made, although the cream / afternoon tea which looked good was expensive in our opinion. Decent gift shop at the end as well. Forgot to mention, we went as soon as we could get off the ship, probably around 10am and there around 10:30 it was fairly quiet but by midday it was getting busy, the audio tour (comes with ticket) was excellent. We didn’t pre book, but probably better to. Edited June 13, 2022 by charltonkerry
Techno123 Posted June 20, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2022 As we live in the UK we went to Edinburgh last year and visited HMS Britannia. A couple of points for you to check on. They were installing a new tram system when we were there and the roads were very congested so (particularly on your way back to the ship) leave plenty of time. The actual entrance to HMS B is in the shopping centre next door - it wasn't very obvious and finally, I would recommend having something to eat and/or drink onboard - expensive but we enjoyed it. Some photos for you 😁
