Recent disembarkation process

As it's our first time on P&O I've been doing a lot of research but information about disembarkation is either vague or inconsistent (probably because of pre-covid/covid etc).

Could someone who has recently disembarked (Iona preferably, but any of the biggest PandO ships) outline the process.

I've read all sorts including having to wait in a designated area and exiting as a group. Including folk who tramped halfway across the ship to their "spot" and then tramped the whole way back again to the gangway!

Our usual plan is to pick the latest possible time slot, then hang out having a leisurely breakfast until the elevator queues subside. We never have any trouble finding our luggage as by that time there are usually only a dozen or so left.

Disembarked from Britannia last week and the process was to be out of your cabin by 08:00 and then go to a designated lounge at a designated time and then that group would be called to disembark.

We had a time of 08:00 to disembark and when we arrived at 07:45 disembarkation had already started and we just walked off the ship.

Are the designated places near the gangway? Do they announce the groups ship-wide as disembarkation times cycle round?  J's knees do not appreciate unnecessary journeys!

Is there any way to guesstimate what time a newbie on deck 9 might be called?

My designated place was Brodies/Casino on deck 7 and we disembarked from deck 6 just forward of the atrium on the port side.

I don't remember any announcements

You get to choose your preferred leaving time. It is announced in Horizon a couple of days before and you have to go to reception with your request, not guaranteed though. If you don't request a time you are allocated one.

You get to request your disembarkation time over the last few days of your cruise.

No - it's called silent disembarkation

I've only sailed with RC before (well apart from one with Airtours but the less said about that one the better). If I remember correctly we had the choice of leaving the cases out the night before and then leaving at the allocated time or leave whenever you like bit you have to take your cases yourself. Is this the same process with P&O or is it leave cases out & allocated time only?
