Age Restrictions

Does anyone know all the age restrictions with carnival? Mainly how old do you have to be to book a cruise by yourself.

All CCL passengers must be at least 21 by the date of sailing to book independently. That's also their drinking age aboard ship.

My sister took me on my first Carnival cruise as a graduation present when I was 18 and she was 21. The following year when I was 19 and she was 22, we cruised together again. Neither one of us is the "Wild-type" and probably didn't have but one alcoholic beverage between us on either cruise (back then the drinking age aboard ship was 18).

Under the rules in effect today, we would not have been allowed to go on those first two cruises, which is a shame, since we have since gotten our entire family hooked on cruising and it has become a yearly family event.

I can understand the age restrictions since the 18 to 21 year old age group has in the past caused alot of problems. However, what I don't understand is why they make an exception for married minors. As if walking down the aisle and saying "I do" at age 16 suddenly makes you a mature adult!

If you are a married couple there are some variations on the age rules. Check with Carnival. My friends daughter just did her honeymoom cruise and loved it.

We had our first kid when my girlfriend was 16 and I was 19. We have since had another, but are still not married. She will be turning 21 on our cruise in November. I'm proposing on the cruise.

I can't believe that if we are responsible enough to have two kids, be homeowners, pay taxes, serve in the military, etc. that we couldn't have booked a cruise at, say 20 and 17!

I don't know how you were able to book, as you will only be 23, and she has to be 21 at the time of sailing (and not turning 21 during the cruise). If you were married, it wouldn't be a problem, but you're not. There are plenty of boyfriend/girlfriend couples where one is not 21, and unless the partner is 25, they can't book. That marriage certificate is worth a lot....in more ways than one.

I hate to sound judgemental, but having a baby out of wedlock at age 16 does not sound like a prime example of responsibility.

It does sound like you made it work, though, and I congratulate you on your future wedding.

Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older.

Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union minor couple. The booking must be documented that the couple are legal Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union.

So you only have to be 21 to book a cruise.
ihhk's girlfriend , would fall under domestic partner rule.

So - other than birth certificates for their two kids, how do they provide documentation that they are legal domestic partners?

Bank statements, Lease agreement, Medical covrage, bills, mail being addressed to both of them at same address.

I would guess these things would do, but don't really know.

We own our home together (no mortgage), so I guess the title to the house would do. She turns 21 on the day after sailing. They didn't say anything about it when she booked this trip, so I guess it's all good.

As for not being the poster kids for responsibility, no, having a kid at 16 isn't the ideal way to go. But it happened.

In the meantime, though, we own a home on 10 acres, travel at will, don't have to work, have a nanny, do volunteer work with several causes, I'm in the reserves, we go to church, and we will never have to worry about a thing as far as money goes. I had a nice inheritance, which, wisely invested, will keep us very comfortable for our lives if we don't get stupid. We don't plan to get stupid, but even if there are a couple of expensive luxuries, it's still all good.

I think we are a unique example of how it's not always the worst thing in the world to make a bad decision and then be able to come away in a good situation.

And just because we have the money doesn't make us responsible. We work on that daily for the kids.
