Vancouver embarkation

I’ve embarked from Seattle, San Diego, and Vancouver.  Vancouver had each time been an absolute cluster.

Any idea  why they consistently have  been so bad ?

Every homeport has its bad days.  Sometimes it is early in the season and staff is getting reacquainted with the new/revised embarkation process.  Often times is an internet problem between the onboard ship computer connecting to the shoreside tablets and laptop computers at the check-in counter.  Or, the ship is delaying boarding, which backs up everyone, and stalls the lines outside the terminal.

When it all goes well, no one notices because it is what they expect.  But when it goes badly, it impacts everyone - passengers and staff.  Luckily, most passengers forget about a slow embarkation once they get to their stateroom, settle in and get their first beverage!

The night before departing from Vancouver, we booked a room at the Pan Pacific Hotel, right at Canada Place, at the port. We got the Alaska Cruise Package, so they handled our luggage. The view from our room, in the morning, looked down at the ship, and they have a special elevator that goes directly to the port. It was the easiest experience we ever had.

Thank you for this tip.  We are looking for a hotel for our cruise next year.
