CoolChange37 Posted January 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Good morning. We are going to be in Rome 2 nights prior (city center) and already have arrangements for those nights with tours. My question is after disembarking on Sunday, we are thinking about getting the transfer to FCO and staying at a hotel close by (any recommendations here would be nice). Can you recommend anything out that way or relatively inexpensive (we will be broke after 13 days on the ship with tours) that we can do for the afternoon/evening near the airport? TIA. CruiserBruce Posted January 10, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2023 There is a Hilton that is actually right in the airport. Nice hotel, very easy to use for the airport.
Rare marazul Posted January 10, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Stay in Fiumicino, a lovely beach city 10 minutes from the airport. It has reasonable hotels and very good restaurants. Taxi to the airport.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 11, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Near the airport you'll find Ostia Antica, which was at one time the major ancient Roman port for the city of Rome. The harbor gradually silted up and the town was abandoned, so it is well preserved (in some ways similar to Pompeii but also very different). It's easy to get to on your own using the trains or by cab (a small fare if staying near the airport). Take a guidebook and do it at your leisure on your own. RTR 21-0 Posted February 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2023 Piggy backing off this post, same idea, wanting to stay in Fiumicino for early flight, but possibly take a train ride into Rome to walk around the Trastevere district or maybe cab to Ostia. I was leaning toward Hilton or HGI but both have gotten some really unfavorable reviews recently. Are there nice, decently priced hotels other than the Hilton brand that are walking distance to the train? If I’m not mistaken, the Leonardo is the only train system, correct? Pretty much have our pre-cruise Rome itinerary planned which doesn’t include any train transportation but would kind of like to experience it and thought that last day might be the time.
