missguy Posted January 12, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2023 Please refresh my memory on this topic. I remember a couple of years ago I had bought before our cruise OBC (USD) but paid in canadian currency at an advantageous exchange rate. Is it still doable now? If yes, do I have to call or buy online? Thank you.
DrewFoundLander Posted January 12, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I've done this most recently in Nov 2022. I called, bought $1000 USD for $1300 CAD. A better exchange rate than my bank offers, don't have to travel with the cash and I get the points on my credit card for the purchase, win win.
missguy Posted January 12, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) Can I buy more than $1000 USD OBC? If so , what is the maximum we can buy? Edited January 12, 2023 by missguy add info
DrewFoundLander Posted January 12, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I have no idea the maximum, the most I ever have was $3000 USD but that was several years ago.
Toddcan Posted January 12, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2023 I'm going to follow this thread. This was a big discussion a few years back. significant advantage to buying OBC in $CAD. Anyone done it recently? I bought some small amounts, but I paid in $USD, so it didn't occur to me to ask about the $CAD rate for comparison. I wonder what it is right now? ladysail2 Posted January 12, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2023 Not that long ago I bought $75 worth of OBC, it cost me $97.50 CDN. I’m not sure if that’s a great deal….but I wanted to supplement a travel agent OBC.
deli cruiser Posted January 13, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2023 just bought OBC yesterday for end of Feb cruise. Paid 650 CDN for 500 US. Easy to do just call C&A and tell them you want to buy OBC for your cruise.
Toddcan Posted January 13, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2023 RCI Exchange rate is 1.300 (2 data points in the above posts). I just checked my Canadian credit card for exchange rate on a $200 deposit for a cruise I booked yesterday, and the exchange rate by Visa is calculating is 1.378 Buying OBC through Royal will save me $7.80 per $100. It's not nothing. 1
