FCO Airport Customs/Immigration wait time

We are arriving on a flight from IAD into FCO at 8:15AM.  Assuming that our flight is on time, we have a train from Rome Termini to Firenze NM scheduled to leave at 10:50AM.  We plan on taking the Leonardo Express from FCO to Rome Termini.  Hoping we have enough time from touchdown at FCO until train from Termini. Anyone familiar with this?

If you are on time, you can probably make it, but do you have any idea what time the train from FCO to Termini is? They run frequently, but its still a 25 or so minute run, plus getting to the train station, and walking between trains at Termini. It might be a bit stressful

Immigration (called Passport check) and collecting your bags can take a while...plan on close to an hour. Customs is literally a yes/no question, and if you have nothing to declare is literally takes a couple of seconds to walk out the door.

Last June when we arrived at FCO in the early afternoon, it took us 90 minutes from getting off the plane to getting to Termini. The train journey took 32 minutes. We had no delays, got through immigration in minutes, our bags came out quickly, we knew how to buy our train tickets and a train was at the platform and left within two minutes of us getting on. You technically would be able to get to your train to Florence if everything goes as well for you as it did for us, but it could be tight if you have any delays.

Unless something goes wrong (flight is late, unusually long backup at immigration, late baggage) you shouldn't have a problem.  That said, I would not buy a train ticket in advance unless you get such a great deal that you wouldn't mind throwing the tickets in the trash if you are late.

If you've already purchased the ticket, it will be what it will be.  There's a small chance you could make the 9:23 LE to Termini (arrives 9:55).  If everything is fairly normal at the airport it's likely you'll make the 9:53 LE, arriving the Termini at 10:25, that's plenty of time to make the connection.

You could probably even make the connection if you're on the 10:08 LE (arrives 10:40).  The LE arrives to the main track head from which your train to Florence will depart, so if you move quickly you can make this connection in ten minutes.

The only time I would buy a train ticket in advance for a trip immediately (or shortly after) after a flight is if the fare was so low I wouldn't mind wasting it if I missed the train, because too many things are out of your control.

There is zero change of not being able to get a seat on a train from Rome to Florence, you don't need to worry about that.  There are trains constantly between the two cities, on two different train lines.  Always check both Trenitalia and Italotreno to be the best combination of timing and fares for your trip.

Hi. Just saw that you’re flying in from Dulles. We are too, and our plane also arrives at 8:15 am. We are from Winchester, VA and are flying on Sept 28. Curious to see if we’re on the same flight
