Taxi to Glacier

AK Dreaming

Been to Juneau a few times. Only did whale watching once. It was ok but usually just visit the port. Going back in April and was considering going to the Glacier. Are taxis readily available and if so how much would it be?  Also I’d like to mine for gold but the cruise excursions do not appeal. Are they readily available once we disembark?

Almost all gold mining in Alaska is fake.  You can take a tour of a mine in Juneau or a gold dredge in Skagway (both authentic although the gold dredge was moved from the Yukon).  You will be given the opportunity to pan for gold and given a salted poke to pan in a trough with warm water.  I did hear a story about the miner who sold the dredge to Skagway insisted they take several tons of dirt with it so visitors would be panning real gold-bearing dirt, but that was years ago.  I'm sure it is long gone by now.
