Mexican Riviera on the Jewel

We found the cardroom fairly empty but by the time we pulled out a game they called the next number. We remembered at the last second we forgot to empty the mini fridge which still had all our Puerto Vallarta chocolates and I made a mad dash to the stateroom. Steward had made up our room but not checked the fridge. Phew got our boxes 🍫 and fought the crowds to debark. We were off the ship by 10:15.

The Wonder is also docked today but when we looked for her at 9 she hadn't been there. My aunt says she watched the ship pull in 10ish. I hope no one had any early flights.

I wonder why she pulled in so late, though. Last time we sailed Wonder we were boarding by 11 am but that won't be feasible for today's passengers.

Thanks for sharing your experience!! We were on the cruise with you. Our kids only made it into the kids club twice. My sister also had 4 in their cabin with only 3 beds the first night. They added the trundle on the second day. They were in an ocean view room. We did not get our free water cartons, even after asking and talking to guest services. We had really quick service at OSheehans for midday snacks, breakfast took forever. We cherish every family vacation even with the ups and downs.

Aw man so ocean views aren't any bigger. I know I've seen pics with double pull down bunks so this is something I will for sure research if we book NCL again.  We had the water code on our booking so I knew we would get those. It was well after dinner but eventually all the deliveries we expected were received.

How did you sister enjoy the cruise? Did she find the were sufficient activities outside of club? I know if we wanted to get in we were in line 30 minutes before it opened. A couple times we missed it due to prioritizing meals or other activities. But I will also rethink booking during spring break.

Thank you for sharing your trip.  What did you think of the ship overall?  Cleanliness, staff, public spaces, entertainment?  Just curious since it is an older, smaller ship.

Overall, it was very nice. I couldn't tell that it was an older ship. The layout made a lot of sense, I just wish that the casino and the martini bar hadn't been so close. Staff was all very friendly even the limited interaction I had with our Steward. He was obviously busy cleaning, so we seldom passed him or had a chance to even say hello.

I loved that there were two options for dance floors and that also Drake for something more low key. Coupled with the drink package, this made for great night entertainment.

Entertainment was superb. We loved New Sensations and D'Revelations. The comedian was top notch and we appreciated that they included a PG version. The Cirque Bijou was exceptional too. Rock You Tonight was well done but compared to the other two, not the best performance of the cruise.

The smoke smell bothered me when getting a martini and the lower section of Stardust. I also noticed a smoking smell on the promenade outside on seven. However I knew we wouldn't be able to avoid it altogether and we were able to minimize it. Compared to CCL where the heaviest scent was near the pool area, it was a marked improvement.

Although the room was smaller, the bedside lamps with USB ports were very convenient. I also liked that the mirror had a dimmer and the bathroom had a nightlight.

We had the code for water too, guest services confirmed and said the water would be delivered but it never came.

Our kids spent a lot of time at the basketball court. We had a great time in all the ports and we were glad there were only 2 sea days, especially with the pool being closed the second sea day and no room in kids club.

My niece and my sister both got what they believe was food poisoning from the ship after the first sea day. Her family did not have as good of a time as our family did.

Oh no!!! That's a definite bummer.

Great review!

We were on the Jewel the week before you. There were indeed 700 kids on that sailing, and we also had to line up to get the kids into Splash Academy (which is definitely undersized for a sailing with 700 kids). But the staff there were great.

It looks like it was a big staff turnover from our week to yours. We had a different cruise director, and the other staff names look completely different as well. Cherry Pie was there, though!

We also had a great cruise—we just bore the full brunt of the Spring Break crowds.

What a great review! Thank you for sharing. I loved every moment. Your crew sounds like a delight to cruise with. I hope you are able to schedule another cruise sooner than later. Welcome back to the ho-hum real world Monday morning.

I hope so too. Monday was kinda a drag for sure. I looked and NCL doesn't have any San Diego departures in 2024 boo. We'll see what the future brings, we could decide to make the drive to LA.

We're doing POA this October but I'm not 100% convinced that I can lump that with cruising and not merely floating accomodations.
