We stayed at Banks Hotel before our cruise last August. It was a block from a tram stop from the train station and easy to get trams for sightseeing from there. We also took a tram from there back to the train station and transferred to another to the port.

The Movenpick is the closest hotel to the cruise terminal. It's literally in the same building complex. I have not stayed there myself, but it is popular with cruise passengers.

My personal favorite is the DoubleTree Hilton Centraal Station. I've stayed there several times.

Both hotels are within easy walking distance to everything, with the DoubleTree being closer to the tourist sites, and the Movenpick closer to the ship.

I've stayed in two hotels in Amsterdam - both were new buildings, so no historical charm, but both have good views, all the modern conveniences. and are relatively close to the cruise port.

1) Hilton Doubletree - on an 'island' across a canal from the old city center and a 5 - 10 mt walk from Central Station (rail), which is also the starting point for the trams that can take you throughout the city. It's walking distance to many restaurants in the historical center.  There are great views of the historical city. just across a bridge,  from its south facing rooms.  It would be a relatively short taxi ride from here to the cruse port (as opposed to from hotels on the south side of the old city.)  Rooms are simply furnished (think "built-ins"), but do the job.

2) The Movenpick Hotel is part of the cruise port complex, so could not be more convenient for embarkation.  The historical center is a lengthy walk, though I believe there is a tram stop nearby that will take you to Central Station (check this). A mid-market hotel but rooms are a little plusher than the Hilton.

Or you can book a hotel IN the historic center and figure that the higher transportation cost to the port is offset by more convenience while you are touring the city.  (And Amsterdam isn't that big anyway.)  I've never stayed there, but I know some cruiselines used the Radisson Blu for guests with pre-embarkation packages.

(Hah - I see Mercruiser just posted the same suggestions!)

Here is the view from my room at the DoubleTree:

The cruise terminal is to the right of the rail yard, but was not visible from my room.

The trains are electric and do not use horns. You will not hear them at either hotel.

Update: I've also added a photo of the Movenpick and the cruise terminal.

I lived in the Netherlands for two years. So I know all the best places that don't have the maddening crowds of Amsterdam. The easiest one to visit is Haarlem. It's a 15-minute train ride from Centraal Station. It's very walkable and very Dutch.

We stayed at the Movenpick in September 2022. We enjoyed the location. Easy walk to downtown, near the train station (don't worry, no noise from it). When it is time to board the ship, you walk outside and right next door is the boarding area. Great location.

Thank you to you all.for the suggestions.

We had thought we would take the train to Haarlem as we have visited Amsterdam several.times. Thanks for helping us to confirm our plans.

Happy travelling to you all

At the risk of overloading you with ideas, here is another favorite outing. It's a 1 hour train ride from Centraal.

We visited Enkhuizen in August and had the place practically to our selves. Amsterdam would have been seething with tourists that day.
