Rocket Launch Affects Ships

Recommended Posts

Just to advise any cruisers leaving out of port Canaveral on Sunday afternoon 5-21 may effect departure times. Astronauts   will be on manned launch at 537pm. They always close ocean area before and until after booster lands on barge. Last manned shot  attracted many drivers to area. Good thing we will have a 10th deck port side perfect view on Wonder.     Bob & Nancy

We were on Wonder on a B2B in January when they launched a Falcon Heavy at around the same time (5:45-ish) on TAD. We left port a bit early to avoid being stuck in the port so we had already turned south when the rocket went up. Based on the scheduled launch time, you will probably get out before they close the port, and then the best place to watch the launch is from the back of the sports deck.

This is what usually happens.  Ships try to pull away before 5PM.

Given the trajectory to the Northeast I'd be surprised if they close the port to vessel traffic.  There is usually a corridor closer to land that ships can use.

This is where Harmony screwed up last year and entered the exclusion zone when departing.   They were supposed to turn South and parallel the shore but instead they maintained a normal departure route and ventured into the exclusion area causing a SpaceX scrub.
