The Citadel from the cruise terminal is about a mile. I want to say it took us 30 minutes to get their at a leisurely pace. Just start walking right once off the ship and up and you can't miss it!

You can also take side trip enroute and see the Public Gardens that is across the street.

We took a taxi right from the pier up to the Citadel. Then we leisurely walked through the gardens and down through the city back to the boardwalk. It was all downhill from the fort.

We did sort of the same type of path.

In September we too from Pier 22, taxi outside of the terminal to the corner of the Public Garden.

Then walked thru the Gardens down the street aside of the Citadel. We saw it many years ago.

Down thru the town and then enjoyed our favorite lunch at Salty's Lobster House along the riverwalk.

Back to the Pier and into the Terminal Shopping Stalls.

We enjoyed walking to the Citadel from the cruise port 2 weeks ago. A lovely women at the dockside information area mapped a route for us that included the Basilica, Library and gorgeous Public Garden. Because we visited the above mentioned areas, our walk took over an hour at a leisurely pace.

Yes that is a great route from the Pier. Head up past the Westin, go north on Barrington past the Governors Mansion and at Spring Garden Road visit Basilica  and Library. Spring Garden is THE people street of the city. At South Park go right and visit the Public Gardens and at that point you are at the foot of Citadel Hill. After doing the citadel (there is an admission) you should walk down and head to the Ferry Terminal where you can take a $2 ride across the harbour to Dartmouth. Ask for a transfer and come back free. Then head south along the Boardwalk and it is another 25 minute leisurely walk back to Pier.
