JerryInIL Posted June 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2023 Looking for excursion recommendations for our Bergen extension in August. We have 1 free day before embarking on the Viking Mars. Hiking, food, and tour boats are okay, but no small planes. Booked Fjell Fortress with our cruise.
Capt_BJ Posted June 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2023 (edited) if sailing Viking which typically does first night in the boarding port and you'll get the 'included' excursion ya don't really need an 'excursion' on your free day. We're off to our third time to Bergen in a couple of weeks ... some VIKING and some 'on our own' ...... If your hotel is 'downtown' then you can easily spend a day exploring on foot. Viking IME uses the dock at what I've labeled A the walk to the fish market (yellow line) is ~.6 miles to get there you'd walk past a fort (you can go in) and all of Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf and the Funicular is close by .... boxed in my pic Edited June 5, 2023 by Capt_BJ

Funicular to Floyen and hike up there and/or back to the city. Bus to cable car Ulriken and walk up there. Full day Norway in a Nutshell, Bergen to Bergen (can purchase ahead of time as a package deal). Some great museums in Bergen: Art (Kode), Bryggen Museum, Hanseatic Museum, etc. Outside of Bergen, the Stave Church and Edward Grieg’s home (same area), and of course, the Fish Market (great place for lunch). You could spend weeks in Bergen and not run out of things to do, just depends on your interests. Enjoy! 1
JerryInIL Posted June 6, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted June 6, 2023 Thanks. BTW, we stay at the Bergen Bors Hotel, which I believe is near the Fishmarket. If you have any recommendations for dinner, that would be great. Doesn’t have to be 5 Stars.
dd57 Posted June 7, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2023 We enjoyed eating at Olivia at the north end of the fish market. The breakfast buffet at the Bergen Bors Hotel was fantastic.
