Mississippian Posted November 15, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2023 I have a Transatlantic booked for Dec. 1 and have "standard" insurance. I've got a sinus and lymph node infection that is for the first time antibiotic resistant. My doctor switched antibiotics, and it's beaten down somewhat, but not eliminated, and this has been going on for more than two months. Quite honestly, I could make the trip and may yet decide to, but I feel bad and worry that the thing could get out of control. My airfare is through Delta, so they have free rebooking, so that's not a problem. I'm just curious what I need to do with NCL. I am using a CASNext certificate for $250 of my fare. Do I get a refund or a future cruise credit? I know I need to cancel the drink package and all my tours before I do anything else, but just trying to know how to proceed. Also, would they prefer that I act now, or later. I'd rather wait to pull the trigger in hopes that things might improve.
Rare insidecabin Posted November 15, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2023 Will your Dr. Issue a no fly/travel letter. I was told that helps a lot to unwind travel. NCL were looking at FCC for the booking.
Socalev Posted November 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2023 I cancelled a cruise a week before sail date. All the costs except for insurance cost, fare and administrative fees were reimbursed to one of the credit cards I had on file. I received a cancellation invoice showing the fare and administrative costs. I submitted the cancellation invoice to insurance and received payment within two weeks. I used two cruise next certificates and the value of the certs was included in the fare costs. The two certs were not returned to my account. I don't know if it will work the same way with a CASNext certificate.

I assume that your doctor would not be willing to sign an insurance claim stating that your medical condition prevents you from Travel. In this case, you would cancel your cruise. Port taxes, fees, and any prepaid expenses will be refunded to original form of payment. Your CASNext certificates will be returned to your account, however, you need to watch the expiration date since you only one year from date of issuance to complete your cruise. You’re in 100% cancellation penalty so you lose your entire cruise fare, insurance premium, and casino admin fee. You will file an insurance claim stating you didn’t feel like cruising. Anything short of your doctor filling out the insurance claim form from Avon (I.e., not a note from your doctor) your claim will be denied. Most doctors are risk adverse an won’t sign the insurance form (risking accusations of insurance fraud) unless they have a true reason you can’t travel. Once your claim is denied, NCL, not the insurance company will give you a one-time-use FCC. You need to use the entire amount on a future cruise.
