Is there anyone who just simply prefers a shorter cruise?

The last two years on our cruise, it seemed that my traveling companion and I were both exhausted (even with getting more sleep this year) and we both thought that maybe a 7-day cruise is just too long for us. We both are a little "over it" by the end of the cruise.

Maybe this is because we have taken the same itenerary for three years in a row (but I don't think so). We both were thinking that we might enjoy a 3-4 resort stay at a resort or nice hotel in the departure port city before cruising a 3-4 day cruise.

Are we just silly or does anyone else prefer a shorter cruise??

I've done *one* short cruise (four-day) and found that I felt like it was over way too soon. I would actually prefer cruises in the 10-14 day range.

Well, I think the same route plays a large part of your decision. Myself, I've only taken one short one because my sister was taking her child and that would cost less but we definitely had an oceanview. Well, he's now a cruiser and going next month on a week long one even she has decided she needs a week two at whatever the price with her childs fare . Anyhow, the person that introduced us said you're not gonna like the short ones once you've been on a week one. The truth holds for me, its like you're packing before you unpack! If I lived in a Port, I'm pretty sure I would get used to the short ones for the sake of buying time between the week or longer one. Definitely need to try another ship!

I'm with tef43, a longer cruise would be better. We did an 8 day cruise in January and it was definitely better than the 7. I think 11-14 would be perfect.

I agree. We have done a 3 day and 5 day. I prefer the 7 day cruises. I will be doing the 8 day Carnival Legend Western next March. I think we will love the extra day.

Maybe we just need to take a break from cruising next year. We have really enjoyed all of our cruises, but none like the 4 day we took first. Maybe just because it was our first? Maybe we like RCCL better (never been on a 7-day RCL Cruise).

Don't know the reason..but we have both been ready to leave the ship when it was time, which usually isn't the case on vacation.....

So, all of the replies show that, as I suspected, I am just plain silly and everyone else prefers a longer cruise

We have done three 7-day cruises and one 4-day cruise and, hands down, we prefer the 7-day or longer. It seems that just as we were unwinding and settled in our cabin, we had to pack up again to leave on the 4-day. We are now booked for another 7-day. Definitely our favorite.

I really like the 4 day cruises. On 7 days, I'm ready to come home towards the end. I've never done a 5 day, now that might be just perfect!

That's it, Jan! Five-day is just perfect for me. I've done one 4 (too short) and several 7's and 5's. I definitely like 5-day best.

The only time I prefer a shorter cruise is when we are taking my sister who is in a wheelchair. It is getting very difficult to take her for longer than 4 days! That would be the ONLY time I'd prefer a shorter cruise.

My husband and I did a 10 day cruise and it was wonderful! I could handle a year, maybe two. . . oh shucks just buy me a residence on a ship and I'd be happy!

My wife and I will be taking our first 3 day late summer. (Fantasy, Nassau Bahamas.) This is only because we are both going through withdrawal and can not wait until our next 7 day. (Glory, in February, Valentines week.)

It may surprise me, but I don’t think I would normally like the shorter cruises. The longer the better! (10, 14, 16 day) The only thing we miss is our kids towards the end of the week.

We’ll give it a shot.

We have taken six of the 4 day cruises (friday afternoon to monday morning) and only one seven day cruise so far.

I always felt that the 4 day cruises were over way too fast. I like to go all out and really decorate the cabin inside and the door also, etc. So it always feels like as soon as I have everything nice and set up, its ready to pack and go home.

However, on the 7 day cruise, by day 6, I was really ready to go home. However, we had also spent 3 days pre-cruise in Puerto Rico as well, so it was really a 10 day vacation. I found myself kind of wishing I was home in my own bed and looking forward to getting back into my 'routine'.

With that said, we are now looking into a 7 day cruise in September, and a 14 day european cruise next year so I obviously enjoyed the 7 days.

I felt that the 7 days gave plenty of time to get settled in an still have plenty of days to enjoy myself before I had to think about packing again.

We have only done a 5 day with another 5 coming up. For us we can not do a 7 yet. We have two small children that stay at my parents. We take them thursday, fly out friday, cruise sat, return thurs and get the babes either thursday night or friday morning.

Its not fair to them any longer and by then I'm dying to see them.

When they are older and can come we'll do longer trips.

We vote for the 7 day cruise. We have taken 4, 5, 7, and 11. 4 seems to short, 5 is pretty good, 7 seems just right, and 11 (although we really enjoyed it) was too long. Of course the ports of call are a factor. We seem to enjoy "at sea" days more now. Even though we vote for 7, our next is a 5 day in October....Any length cruise beats being at home! but friday to mon is only a three day cruise.

I've only done 7 day cruises. Since I live in the midwest, I wouldn't want to do anything shorter because of the expense of flying or the time it would take to drive but if I lived close to the ports, I think I might enjoy shorter cruises just because I could probably afford to cruise more often then.

I didn't want to get off the ship on our recent 7-day cruise. It was our first cruise, and I'm wondering if it's like a first love (or first high)...you're comparing everything else to that.

Yeah - having to fly definately makes a huge difference I think, we live only a few minutes away from the Port of Miami, so we can take short cruises without having to worry about a flight or pre-cruise hotel stays etc...
