Queen's Grill to Britannia Back to Back in NYC

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've booked 2 back to back voyages for December on QM2 - a Southampton to New York transatlantic in QG, followed by the NYC-Caribbean-NYC straight after in Britannia Obstructed View.  From my last transatlantic I remember everyone has to get off in NYC and go through immigration.  Does anyone know about procedures or have advice please?  For instance, all our belongings and luggage.  Will the butler transfer our luggage for us to our new stateroom while we are onshore? Is it a full check in all over again in Brooklyn, with a new check in time etc?  Does any unused cruise credit transfer over?  Are they new accounts or do they combine them?  Anything else we should know?  To complicate matters further we are travelling with friends doing exactly the same thing.  Thank you very much for any information and tips.

UK to Brooklyn to anywhere always requires all passengers to disembark, go through CBP immigration and security to go back on board. You can't avoid being off for at least 20 minutes, it can take longer. After clearing CBP, you continue down a corridor, as if to leave the terminal building, but on the last stretch there is a door on the right and you are then fed back into the embarkation channel and then back on board after security. I can't help on the other questions

We have done this in NY.  It was a Québec- NY - Southampton voyage which had been booked as two separate trips. Your luggage will be transferred for you.  As you are in QG on the first leg your concierge should be able to get you your new cruise card for the second segment the day before arrival. We were not in the Grills when we changed cabins so went to the purser's desk to get our new cards. You use your cruise card from the first segment to disembark and your new card to re-embark.

You will not have to check in again in the terminal although, as Pushpit said above, you will go through security. If you are not going to leave the terminal area you will be directed to a waiting area for in-transit passengers and will be the first to board when the US authorities say so.

Do you know if our account carries over, including any onboard credit that may be left (our friends have over $1K onboard credit as part of a promotion and may not spend it all on the transatlantic).

Usually any OBC attached to a specific booking doesn’t transfer over. Having done back to back before, card was charged separately for each voyage and account settled changeover night.
