Captain’s Welcome Party on 4 Night

I haven’t gone to a Welcome Party in years. Not on a 4 day. 
I am cruising with friends and some want  to know about the Welcome Party. 
I no longer know if you join a line and shake hands with the captain or if waiters come around with canapés, whiskey sours etc. 

I do remember taking packets of sugar because the whiskey sours were really sour. 
So my question: is there one on a four day, and what does it consist of?

There are no welcome parties or even Crown & Anchor member parties on 4 night cruises anymore.

I don’t go to either one, but my friends will be disappointed.
