What types of food and snacks can I bring back from a shore excursion

California as mentioned above has strict rules as there are in Europe 

Please please check the rules when you travel.  I don't want to have to kill all my livestock because you were an irresponsible idiot.

I recall traveling to your country when mad cow disease was a big issue.  They were very pointed about what we were carrying and where we had been both going and coming.

Yep. They contribute enormously to the country's and probably the world's agriculture. Drive someday down in the San Joaquin Valley and check it out.
