Will be on The Solstice in September 2024 from Vancouver to Hawaii. I am interested in the Casino Slot Tournament. Has anyone done this? How does it work?

I have done it before on Solstice, in dec 2022, so hopefully things are still the same. You pay  the fee, its usually 20% off if you purchase pre-cruise. If you buy it pre-cruise go to casino cashier and tell them you bought it pre-cruise and they will give you slot tournament voucher, if not you just pay them at that time.

 

It is really simple. You hit the play button over and over again, touch the screen to pop ballons for bonus.  Your score goes up and up. It is two minutes and if you are lucky you win. There are qualifying rounds first, then the top 10 go to "final".  They usually split the $500 prize (1st $300, 2nd $150, 3rd $50).  The winnings are casino credit not cash.

We did one of the slot tournaments that was held on Constellation in Oct/Nov 2023.  It was run exactly as djneph described although in our case there was no final round as the person with the top score after everyone had a chance to play once was declared the winner.  The tournament is conducted on a certain set of slot machines on the casino floor.  In our case it was 8 slot machines (there were 4 other machines being used that are behind the 4 slot machines that you can see in the photo).  So the tournament was run 8 players at time--where everyone had a chance to play once.

 

The mechanics of the game was exactly as djneph described right down to the balloon popping.  If you look at the photo, you can see that the 8 machines are tied together because the players in 2nd and 3rd place (among the 8 playing) are declared up on the top screen.

They had one on the Ascent last week, apparently another rule is that you have to yell a lot. I was in the Casino at the time.  🙂

I did a (pre) pay one on Apex Nov-23 and it was similar to the way others have mentioned but clearly there are variations. 

 

Consistence is the predetermined bank of machines setup with a specific 'tournament' type game and your name will appear on the machine assigned to you for your round.  Rounds are based on the number that have registered to play so this of course would be unknown ahead of time.  The difference for the one I played, scores were captured overall for all rounds and think it was top 8 (or 10) scores qualified for the final round with a single prize of $500 casino credit to the winner. I got in the final round and was doing so poorly almost the entire time with many behind me focused on someone next to me, but the tables turned right near the end and I was suddenly at the top and won.  Not sure who was more shocked, me or them LOL.  It was fun but it was the only one I played during the cruise, the 'fun money' was an awesome take away!

 

They also had other 'free' tournaments during the sailing where I heard them announce $50 credit prize.  One day it was for Concierge guests, another was for first time Celebrity cruisers, thinking there were others but can't recall.

I enjoy slots. I've never done a tournament but it sounds like it could be fun to experience. Many above note that you get a discount to buy in advance, but the Celebrity website doesn't make clear if there are fixed times for the tournaments and when they'd be. Obviously I wouldn't want to pre-pay if they'll clash with other things I already want to do.

There is no universal fixed time for the slot tournaments across the fleet, if that is what your asking.

 

However I imagine that you might find some consistency for a given ship on the same itinerary (e.g. the first sea day on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean round trip sailing on Apex). 

 

If you find that the slot tournament timing doesn't work for you when you get on board, you can cancel and get your money back or OBC back if you purchased before your cruise. Just be sure to go to the casino as soon as it opens to find out when it is scheduled for.

Ok, that makes a lot of sense. I didn't know you'd have the opportunity to get a refund on the pre-pay. Thank you. (this it my first cruise)
