Picture-A-Week 2024 - Week 06

Recommended Posts

Pictures taken between Monday, February 5 and Sunday, February 11.

February is well underway.

I have verified that there will be an extra day this month.

With a whole extra day available, there is no excuse not to post a photo or two!

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

Last year I documented both sides of the San Gabriel range after a record snowfall and while we haven’t set any records so far, a recent atmospheric river has left its mark. On the way to a Super Sunday party with family and friends, I pulled off the road to take in the view. This part of the High Desert has had a 10% increase in population just since 2020 but the Mojave Desert isn’t in any danger of filling up soon and views like this can still be easily found. This photo was taken from an elevation of around 3,200 ft. and the horizon cuts off the view of the mountains at almost exactly the current snow line. Stopping to “smell the roses” (Joshua Trees?) and appreciate nature’s beauty on the way to a very human-centric event was surprisingly refreshing.

On the island of Bonaire, there is a commercial pier where ships load salt from the island's salt works.  It's just called The Salt Pier.  I spent some time under that pier during this week shooting video.  Here are some stills that I cut from the footage shot during Week 6

  • 2 weeks later...

We were in Cozumel on Feb 5th and the winds were incredibly strong and increased in intensity throughout the day. By the afternoon the waves were hitting the seawall so hard it was sending water almost as high as a three story building.  Our ship, the Carnival Spirit, couldn't depart the pier safely so we ended up spending the night in Cozumel.  Because of that we had to skipped our next port of call, Belize.
