dmwnc1959 Posted March 5 #1 Share Posted March 5 Curious as to how the disembarkation and re-embarkation goes at Pier 35S for cruise ships stopping in San Francisco for the day as a port of call (coastal repositioning cruises, etc.). There doesn’t appear to be a telescoping ramp like at embarkation cruise terminals, so I’m guessing ships use their absolute lowest deck for walk-offs like you would in most any port of call? And is the interior of the pier just a vast empty warehouse with the cruise line using a small fraction of the very forward part for guests coming and going? Don’t suppose anyone has pictures? 😁
julia Posted March 5 #2 Share Posted March 5 Sorry, no photos, but pretty much as you describe. Our ship used a lower deck ramp, and you walk thru a cold, dreary warehouse out to the Embarcadero. However, it is quite close to Pier 39... so there's that.
CruiserBruce Posted March 5 #3 Share Posted March 5 It works fine. Yes, lower deck gangway, and a big warehouse style building. The biggest issue when it was the primary cruise terminal was the lack of any effective traffic pattern laid out in front...it could be a cluster. If you are just making a port stop for a day, it will be like many ports with a facility really not designed to be a cruise terminal.
