My View: I See a Cruise on the Horizon! (Semi-Live)

Day 1 Dinner in the MDR:

TIP:  I will post food based upon our perspective in the following way:

Excellent (Will definitely order it again)

Good (May order it again if nothing else looks great)

Okay (Good for one time, but not worth the calories)

A No Go (Did not enjoy it, did not finish the meal)

 

Appetizers:

 

Shrimp Cocktail (Excellent, but small)

 

Roasted Tomato Soup (Good - DH said it tasted like Campbells, but I liked it well enough to try it again… I did not grow up with Campbells 😄 )

 

Chicken Wild Rice (Good - It did not have much rice in it)

Vegetable Wellington (Excellent - it was so good, DH got a second dish of it in the buffet):

 

12 Hour Braised Short Rib (Excellent - almost no fat, very tender and flavorful):

Melting Chocolate Cake: (Excellent - some table mates ordered it with peanut butter, so we will try that next time)

After Dinner Fun:

 

We walked around the ship to sample the public music offerings.  We had planned on sitting in the Brewhouse to listen to Buck and Oz, but we did not want to take up a table since they were serving extra charge dinner there.  We listened for a while on the benches by the photo gallery.

 

We also enjoyed Sunny Violins in the atrium - excellent musicians.

 

From there, we headed to the piano bar with Oliver, where we stayed.  We had the best intentions to go to the “Welcome Aboard” show but enjoyed Oliver’s music so much, we ended up staying.

My View: Day 2 - At Sea

TIP:  You need to make reservations for brunch in the MDR in the app.  We did not know, so it added about 8 minutes to our wait time.

After breakfast, we found a couple of ducks and enjoyed time on deck 5.  

 

 

TIP: If you want a very quiet space on sea days, deck 5 Lanai is the place to be.  Even at 11 AM, we found plenty of loungers empty.

I spent about 30 minutes on a lounger on the Serenity deck adult area.  It was very windy.  I never got too hot.  My lounger was right by one of the hot tubs in front of the salad bar.  I will definitely spend time there again if I can find a lounger.  When we got there around 11:45, there were 2 loungers available, but not together.  I can see that the barrier may block the breeze in port, but it was not the case while at sea today.

Lunch - this is starting to look a lot like a food review 😄

 

DH had a salad from Fresh Creations at Serenity.  I did my 30-minute sunshine time, so I did not get a picture. 

 

We piked up a BLT for DS and Tomato & Mozzarella for myself at the Deli.  Both were good.  We tried this soup - don’t remember the name but it at rice and chicken.  It was not just okay.

I was on Horizon for 8 days during covid in an Havana aft wrap.  I am sure you will enjoy the ship - you have great ports.  The ship was a bit "big" for us - prefer smaller ships.  However - I think I am in the minority - lol!

Wife and I are booked a Havana aft wrap as well. Booked deck 9 for the extra shade, me and the sun aren't best friends. lol

It is a tradition that some people hide ducks for fellow cruisers to find. You can keep them or hide them again.  Some have a tag with the information about whoever had hidden the duck.  Several crew members also collect them. 🙂

 

Some ask you to post to Facebook, but you have to join a group - which I can’t do.

Are you having any trouble with your wifi connection? You apparently have an internet package, which we didn't 2 weeks ago on Horizon, so that might make a difference. But our Carnival Hub wouldn't stay connected. Every time you took out your phone we had to reconnect, often more than once in each use, no matter where you were on the ship. Our tablemates at dinner had the same problem. (All Android,if that mattered)

 

We did accidentally discover you had a momentary internet connection immediately after signing on each time though, even without an internet package. My wife had signed on and some emails came through and we thought "Wait, how did that happen?"  It didn't last long, less than 30 seconds, but if you were trying to load a page or two that was kind of useful.

DH and DS have not had any issues with their iPhones.  They only use the free wifi.  I have issues connecting from one device to another.  It can take as many as 12 times (I counted 😄) to reconnect.  It will say ‘let’s go’ but the wifi will not show up.  Internet has been sporadic, but the speed has been fine once connected.  I will need to see if DS can download an email or two by reconnecting…

TIP: Thanks to @Earthworm Jim for this one!  When you connect to free internet and your email app is running in the background, it will download email for a short period - about 30 seconds.  Tested on iPhone and Android.
