Transfer from Dublin (Dun Laoghaire) to town

Recommended Posts

We'll be on NCL Getaway in Dublin May 7th from 0700-1900 and just want to do our own thing.  What's the easiest and fastest way to get to center of Dublin from the tendered port?  Thanks!

The DART.  I used it regularly on a land vacation, including between Dublin and Dun Laoghaire.  I had a one-week pass, but individual tickets and day passes can be purchased at all stations.  There are several stops within Dublin, so you have options depending on what you want to see.

Use the DART (local train).  The station is very close to where the tenders come ashore.  A day return ticket is €5 for an adult, which covers the DART only.  If you want to use LUAS (trams) or Dublin Bus then perhaps consider ordering a Visitor Leap Card which covers Dart, Luas and Dublin Bus for €8 per adult for 24 hours.  This is a 'hard copy' ticket and needs to be pre ordered and snail mailed to your address.

Will be in Dublin on 18 May 2024 on a stop on our cruise. We were planning to take the DART into Dublin from Dun Laoghaire but have just discovered that it will not be running on that day due to "essential engineering" according to the customer rep at DART. So, has anyone used the bus in Dublin? If so, did it run on time, was it clean and comfortable? Or would be better off to try getting an Uber or a taxi? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We are considering a taxi for convenience...getting directly to where we want to start the day, not having to deal with spouse's mobility issues in walking through the train station, finding a seat, etc.  I am hoping taxi's will be readily available but may need to do more research on that.

I would add we hailed a cab in Dublin to take us back to the dock during our last trip. It turned out to be a wonderful, memorable experience. The driver (looked to be 70ish years old?) shared so much information and told wonderful stories. Mr. Blue and I still talk about that and it brings a smile to our faces every time.

That may be a good idea.  Although there are elevators in Dun Laoghaire station, currently the south bound elevator is out of action.  This is the one you would be using on your return journey.  There is a taxi rank at the top of the road across from the station (Marine Road) it is  an uphill walk to the taxi rank.

Perhaps download the app that is used in Ireland "Free Now" for calling taxis.
