We took tours outside of downtown 18 years ago.
Anything you could recommend around the port area?

My 18 year old sweatshirt needs replacing.  🙂

We enjoy local cafes even though food is included on the cruise ship.

Local cuisine, not large meals, though.

Thank you.

There is a shopping mall for local vendors at the port. For local tour, Cape Breton is very popular and there are many local taxi or private operators waiting at the port parking lots . If you have 4 persons in a tour, the taxi fare is quite reasonable.

Check out Viator for tours - we are going to Louisberg for the 4.5 hour tour. They will pick up at the port.

Has anyone done the blackwood tour going to Gaelic museum and william bell museum? I’m feeling its only an hour at gaelic museum so may be rushed. I’m torn as i was thinking of going on just a tour to gaelic museum but i don’t want to miss the william bell museum. Is it worth it?

I'm not a big fan of staying in town in Sydney.  I love their lifestyle that they live, but in terms of touristy stuff, there's the cruise terminal itself (which is mega-touristy) and that's just about it.  Cape Breton is all about the lakes and the greenery, and for that you have to get out.   And the Irish and Scottish culture, but that is more pronounced as you go out onto the countryside.
