Airplane mode cruising Carnival Spirit in Alaska?

First time cruise to Alaska on the Spirit next week. Do I need to keep my phone in airplane mode while cruising Alaska while on the ship?

Yes.   U h of Alaska is sparsely populated , no connecting roads, so no cell towers.  And some of the time you would be far enough from land that you are too far for a signal.  Thus you would be on the ship cell tower, paying big bucks.  EM

I did, unless we were in port. I was able to text/make calls as normal then.

We use airplane mode while on any cruise ship regardless of the itinerary.
