What Not To Miss On Conquest?

Hi all, I posted this topic before going on my cruise on the Rhapsody of the Seas. The tips I received really helped. We're headed out on the Conquest so please any tips would be appreciated. Also does the Conquest have the wine tasting or the cocktail tasting you pay extra for? Thanks

The Point- being from New Orleans we found the dining room to be average to good, but The Point was as good as most of the fine restaurat here in New Orleans

2. When you first get on go to deck five at the info desk. If you are one of the first 500, you will get an invitation to a Mexican party (Free margrita's!) You just have to say that you will meet with someone about joining their vacation club. We signed up but never went. We did go to the Mexican Party, and well..... the free drinks were quite strong!

Yep!! I have to say the free margarita's were really really good.....so was the quacamole and chips too!! We didn't go meet with the vacation club high pressure salesmen either!! Can't wait to do it again!! 138 days for me!!

Cindy - There was wine tasting at The Point on sea days around noon. It was $8.00 for four wines last year - I think I've read it's up to $10 now.

Thanks Nybumpkin. Does anyone know if they have the cocktail seminar like RCCL. That is something I would definitely recommend not to miss on RCCL. It was so funny and you got more than your money worth of drinks. Thanks for the tip of the Mexican party. :)

Yes, it is $10. But since some events on the Capers listed prices (spin class, etc.) and the wine tasting did not, I thought the wine tasting was free. Silly me:rolleyes: . They did American wines one day and French wines another. I don't recall a cocktail/martini tasting - and I think I would have;)

 

I thought the complimentary cocktails (Whiskey sours, Tequilla sunrises, champagne, red wine, white wine were choices being brought around) and "horseduvers" at the Captain's cocktail reception (Monday night) were very nice.

 

Remember, the drinks aren't free from the friendly servers in the casino, like they are in Las Vegas (I didn't remember:eek: )

 

We ate at the point, and for me, the food was not $30 pp better than the dining room. But for quiet, relaxed dining, with superb attention, then the point is the place to go.

 

Afternoon tea in Alfreds Bar (complimentary) was a good 3PM respite from the sun and crowds on the pool decks. And the jazz trio in Alfreds in the evening was very good.

Just a note on afternoon tea - Alfred's is the cigar bar, but it's nonsmoking for tea. I didn't notice a problem with "leftover" cigars. It's very nice - music, tea/coffee, sandwiches and pastries. Alfred's can be hard to find, though - it's aft on deck 4 (one of the decks that doens't go all the way through). The aft staircase can take you there, and there's also a staircase by the disco that works as well.

If you want to get out of the sun during the day or for a quiet moment at night, go to the deck off of the main lobby area (under the lifeboats). There are several sets of doors but I went there numerous times and rarely saw anyone else. It was nice at night because all you can hear is the water and there was enough light at night to read if you want to. A great place to wind down after a busy day. The lounge chairs there are padded and fairly comfortable.

I heard that there is a 24-hr frozen yogurt machine (soft-serve), but can anyone tell me where it is? We will be on the Conquest 10/8/06, and DH & DS will just pull up a chair if we can find it.

It is on the same level as the main pool just before entering the buffet if you are walking front to back. You can't miss it - there are tables right across from it next to the windows so you can camp out there and watch the view.:D

There are a couple of machines on the Lido deck - as I recall, one forward of the buffet area and one by the aft pool. My sons' favorite place on board!

Just off the conquest and we had to go to the yogurt machine by the pool at the aft as the other machine was broken most of the time.

Go to Sur Mer. You have to go up the stairs in the Lido buffet to get there. I liked the fish-n-chips. Also there's usually very few people up there. I did see our Maitre d eating lunch up there one day.

 

Don't forget to go to the very front of the ship. Some CCers refer to secret doors to get to these areas on the ship. Great view and usually no one else it out there.

 

Enjoy your cruise. I loved the Conquest, but I must admit that so far, the Victory is my favorite ship.
