Verizon in Mexico

I've never tried using my Verizon phone in Mexico, but Customer Service says it works.... Anyone have experience? We'll be in Playa Del Carmen for a week. I am getting very mixed info from Verizon (imagine that)!!!!!

I was there a week ago and was NOT able to use it! One of my sisters works for Verizon and she couldn't get service either!

I was in Cozumel in April and thought I'd be able to make a call but got a recording in Spanish which I didn't understand. So I used the ship's phone to make a quick call.

I was getting a signal on my phone but it said ROAM so I didn't try to use it. Verizon website says you need to subscribe to the International service for the phone to work. You must have a tri-mode phone. (Most phones have tri-mode if you purchased it within the past 2-3 years.)

Just spoke to Verizon...they confirmed that I do have a trimode phone and told me how I would need to dial a number in the US. I upgraded to an international plan and was told there was no roaming fees with that plan, for Mexico. Apparently other destinations have different roaming costs.
