Thank you to all for the wonderful reviews and comments. I emailed Eduardo last night with a few questions and he responded immediately. I then sent the request and this am had my confirmation numbers. Not sure if Eduardo gets any sleep, but his customer service is exceptional! I can not wait to see for myself! Looking forward to the new reviews also!! My kids and their friends are looking forward to the kayaks and snorkeling. Thanks again- Karen

Hello!

My family of 5 will be going to Cozumel March 28. Do the cruise ships use Playa Uvas as an excursion? We will be on the Splendour, and I don't think it's listed as one of their excursions. I was just wondering how crowded this place gets and do they limit the number of people visiting. I'm trying to find a beach that doesn't get too crowded (granted I know we will be gone during Spring Break, but I know my teenagers want a little bit of crowd. I could sit on a quiet beach all day, but I'm trying to please everyone here. I also like the idea of a pool, because my 12 year old prefers swimming in a pool vs the ocean. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We really enjoyed our day on 2/21 at Uvas. We purchased the all inclusive package. First we went on a 45 minute guided clear kayak tour followed by snorkeling. We saw a lot of small fish and coral. After that we were able to relax, drink and eat fajitas. Santos our waiter was very attentive and took great care of us. Most of the staff even remembered my husband and myself by name. Even though there we ship tours going on throughpout the day it never felt crowded because everything was extremely organized. It was a very relaxing day and I highly recommend Playa Uvas. Thanks Eduardo and the Paya Uvas staff- Tracey

We spent our wonderful day at Playa Uvas on Tuesday (seems like a long time ago!) and it was everything we had hoped and much more.

We had met some friends on the ship that wanted to come along so I emailed Eduardo who promptly emailed me back and said it would be no problem to bring them. We arrived by taxi ($15 for 5 of us from Puerto Maya) about 10:00am.

We were greeted by the ever-friendly Carmen who is an absolute delight and a true asset to Uvas. Carmen escorted us over to introduce us to the bartender, to Rafael our waiter, the dive master and just about everyone else that walked by! :) Everyone was so friendly and they were very well staffed. Our chairs were reserved waterfront and since we got there just in time to join a snorkel group, we opted to do that first. Rafael took our towels down to our chairs for us while we stashed all the goods in the lockers.

We saw a lot of different fish during our snorkel including a large squid, moray eel, lots of colored fish and conch. The entry into the water is a bit tricky with the rocks on the shore but it's only a few feet until you get to smoother ground. Our shoes were placed in a large bag that were put on the kayak with another guy who kept a close eye on everyone in the group. It was a bit of a work-out as the water was a little rough but not too bad.

When we got back to our chairs we met Luz, the massage therapist, who already knew my name! EVERYONE in this place knew my name! She is everything you all said she was...and more. A real professional. I don't like massages but had booked one for my dh who said it was the best one he's ever had. She tried to talk me into a demo that she promised I would like but I wasn't brave enough. I settled down with a drink and enjoyed the sun but then Sol arrived and had her jewelry set up so it was time to go shopping!

Sol...what a sweetheart from Argentina. I liked the necklace she had on but she didn't have any like that for sale because it took a special enamel she can only get in Argentina. She just smiled and said she would sell me that one if I wanted it. It was perfect and I found earrings to go with it. I bought another set as well. All total, we bought many necklaces and earrings in our group. Everyone loved her jewelry. I wore one of the necklaces off the ship and had 3 different ladies comment on how pretty it was. Thanks, Sol for selling me the jewelry off your own neck! :)

By now, it was lunchtime. We didn't order the lunch inclusive because we wanted to order off the menu. It was great. Wonderful nachos, guacamole, fajitas. Fixed and set up for us before Rafael came to get us on the beach.

After hanging out for the rest of the day, we sadly had to head back to port. After a hug from Carmen and bidding everyone a farewell...we caught a taxi back vowing we would definately return to Playa Uvas again. After 10 trips to Cozumel and visiting many of the beaches and resorts, I can honestly say that was the best experience we've ever had on the island. I'll never get over the fact that everyone knew my name and REMEMBERED it. Even some of the other guys from the dive shop. When I forgot Rafael's name, he joked with me that he remembered mine so I could remember his!

Thanks, Eduardo, Carmen, Luz, Sol, Rafael and all of the wonderful staff. We'll be back in May but will have a 2 and 5 yr. old with us so may not be able to come to Uvas. I don't think I'd be able to relax with them around all the rocks on the beach but I encourage EVERY adult to give Playa Uvas a try. You won't be sorry and we will certainly be back as soon as possible!

(P.S. Sorry I don't have any pictures because my camera took a swim in Costa Maya after too many cervezas. Bummer....)

Hi Sounds like you had a great time.

Did you book your excursion on your own or through the ship?

We will be in Cozumel in May and trying to figure out what excursion to do.

Thanks!

We booked directly with Eduardo at Playa Uvas. I never book ship excursions and it will be less expensive to book direct. Just hop in a cab and you're there in about 5-10 min.

(And De Nada, Eduardo!)

Here are some pictures from our visit to Playa Uvas last week:

The day we were there, there were 7 ships in port! You'd never have guessed it at Playa Uvas, though. I love that they limit the number of people, because we were never crowded at all.

All the lovely things I would say about this place have already been said, so I'll just say this: If you're on the fence about whether or not to go there, get off that fence now! Just go! :D You won't regret it, I promise. And get a massage from Luz. I'm still kicking myself for not doing it, but I'll get one next time for sure.

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use the clear Kayaks on your own or do you have to go with a tour?

Also is there enough beach in the water to throw a football around or is it pretty rocky?

Thank you!

Great Photo's. I saw photo's of some of the other popular clubs in cozumel, and they were just too crowded. Only 3 ships in port including ours on the day we will arrive. I cant wait to have a nice laid back day at Playa Uvas.

We spent the day at Uva's on Feb. 22nd. :D We had a great time. I hate to repeat everything already said, but the water was clear and beautiful. They fed the fish, so they did swarm around us as we snorkeled, and swam out of an underwater cave when food was put at the mouth of it. We were able to spot a small eel. A Kayak follows the snorkelers, so if you are worried about not being a strong swimmer, they will watch out for you. You swim with the current. They will give you virgin Daiquiris before you finish your tours, alcohol after. They do let you hang on to your gear, in case you want to go back in, but after I started drinking the margaritas, I never made it back out. ;) I ended up having a few too many margaritas,:o and missed the shows that night on the ship... at least I made it to dinner though, ...and they were very good margaritas...

I don't think that they let you take the Kayaks out alone. DH and DS did the kayak tour, and enjoyed it, but I choose to just snorkel. The beach is pretty rocky.

The showers are outside, basically just to wash the salt water off of you. There is a restroom, and you could change in there, but we wore out suits with a cover up there and back to the ship.

The only slight disappointment was that I hadn't notice anyone on here mention that you have to pay to rent the beach beds, I thought that they were first come, first serve when I saw the pictures of them. I debated paying the $10 , and I did sit on one for a second,(they are very comfy) but since I'm not one to just lay around on the beach, I opted not to. I don't think I saw anyone on them all day, which is a shame.

The staff were very attentive, and we had a wonderful day at Uva's.

Since this is the third or fourth mention of fish feeding on this thread, I'm hopping out of "lurk-mode" to address this.

All over the island of Cozumel you will find large signs with National Park regulations. The National Park includes most of the west coast, all of the south coast and the southern half of the east coast. There is no question that this beach club, along with most that you would visit as cruiseship passengers, falls within the jurisdiction of the National Park.

On these very large signs, it has been made clear that feeding the fish is against park regulations. There's a reason for this. Cozumel is home to one of the most beautiful reef systems in the world. Most people who currently live on this planet will not see it. How fortunate that you have the opportunity to do so! How unfortunate that in doing so you put at risk the ability for future generations to see this natural wonder.

PLEASE DON'T FEED THE FISH! Please do not encourage others to do so. Put aside the fact that it is against regulations, and keep in mind that this delicate underwater ecosystem is not a playground, it is a living organism. It has its own rhythms and cycles. By feeding the fish you disrupt the cycle and DO HARM!

So please, by all means, go to Playa Uvas and tell them you do not appreciate their interference with the delicate balance of life they profit from. And if you see this happening anywhere else, tell them the same thing. Wouldn't it be great if you could bring your granchildren to Cozumel some day and show them the fish?
