ca2ga2000 Posted June 28, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2004 Do you have to carry your passport (or DL & birth certificate) off the ship in the ports of call? We are planning to snorkel in all 3 ports during our upcoming W. Caribbean cruise.... just wondering if we need all this ID to get back on the ship, or if our S&S cards and maybe driver's licenses would suffice. Thanks! serene56 Posted June 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2004 Leave ALL your documents onboard. Carry only your sign and sail card/ picture id and cash. Leave all others in your safe locked up.

BaumD Posted June 28, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2004 Make a copy of the picture page of your passport and take that with you also. If you by any chance miss the ship, it will make things a lot easier.
98Charlie Posted June 29, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Your S&S is all you really need to get back on board. However, if you run into difficulties (miss the ship, traffic ticket, in the wrong place at the wrong time, etc.) you will be happy to have the original passport and probably a credit card. A photocopy will help the American Consulate help you when they are open (first thing tomorrow morning, Señor). Until then you may be considered an illegal alien. The following post may be of interest. It is specific to the island of Barbados, but brings out some good points. Flacrusrs Posted June 29, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Right after 9/11 we needed phot ID in addition to the ships card to enter the port area. In the last two years though no one has ever asked for additional ID, although we always carry copies of our passports and when we are off the ship just in case. Cya@Sea Posted June 29, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2004 We left passports in the safe on the ship, and took sign and sail and DL's. Sometimes they asked for DL's, sometimes they didn't..
MaryPoppinz Posted June 29, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2004 If we're going to be leaving the port city, or if we're arranging a tour on our own, then we take our passports. If we're staying in the port city or we're on the ship's excursion, we leave them in the safe, and carry a copy.
