We are returning to Bora Bora again this year and want to rent waverunners through Miki Miki. Last time we booked through Top Dive, but this year I have emailed them twice and haven't received a response. Has anyone booked directly with Miki Miki before?

We finally got through to Matiera Beach waverunners and decided to book through them. They were actually less expensive than last year for the same tour and at a better 10:30 AM time slot. Anyone gone with Matiera tours before? I read another thread that they are comparable to Miki Miki.

We did Matira, also at 10:30 because like you, we couldn't reach Miki Miki. It was WONDERFUL!!! Ralph was our guide and he zipped us around the entire lagoon, including jumping the wake of the tenders!!!

Then we went to a motu where he lived and he showed us how to shuck a coconut and a few other demonstrations and fed us banana sandwiches with coconut inside - they were so yummy and fun. It was on my 40th birthday and one of the highlights of my life so far - you'll love it. The water colors are amazing and there's just something about holding on to your "honey" zipping thru the water in Paradise!!! I'm thinking it lasted 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

My husband and I are on the July 12th Tahiti/Hawaii cruise. This is our third time to Tahiti and have never done the waverunners there or anywhere! I have a small, logistics question...what do you do with your "stuff" , ( beach stuff, wallet, etc.), when you are on the waverunner? Also, do they give you a life jacket? ( I'm not a swimmer and I will definately drown without one!)

Thanks,

Linda

Linda, the waverunners are very stable and you have very little chance of falling off of them. Floatation vests are provided by the operators of the tour. As far as your personal belongings, there is a compartment under the seat that is large enough to accomodate a back pack and towels. Last year when we were in Bora Bora and did the waverunners thru Miki Miki, we had no problems what so ever. In fact, some of the other people had belongings that were safely stored in the operators office. Go for it and have a blast!!:D PS: Don't forget your camera!! Put it in a zip lock bag in the compartment. The views of the other side of the island are spectacular!!:)

I did manage to get through to Miki Miki before our 9th May sailing and booked them. However they failed to turn up at the dock so I class them as unreliable. We instead took a Funcat tour booked off the dockside for $200. These are little mini cats which motor like jet bikes. We enjoyed them more than we would have the jet bikes as we could sit side by side and not behind each other.,

Ms. Jo,

Had you pre-paid Miki Miki? And, if so, when they failed to show up, were you able to get your $ back?

I am a little concerned by this! We are booked for August through Top Dive with Miki Miki. Thanks,

I had not prepaid so no money was lost - I made a telephone booking, as I had read they gave cheaper rates direct rather than through Top Dive, in hindsight maybe if I had used Top Dive they may have turned up

We had a great time on this excursion (we booked it ourselves by e-mail). Rainu (Ray) Besineau was great, our guide Warren (!?) was excellent. We had never driven a Jetski before and it was a piece of cake. You've never seen such beautiful water. We completely circumnavigated the island, stopped at a private motu where we rode ATV's out to the ocean side of the motu. We can't stop talking about the great time, Warren even dropped us off at Bloody Mary's dock and we enjoyed a couple of Hinano's :D .

Go for it!

Hello Charsacutter, this is/was not an easy one to find but here's a link that'll put you in the right place: if you got to www.boraborawaverunner.com it'll simply redirect here: http://www.tahitiguide.com/directory/details.asp?filter_1=&office=1060. It's got all you need including e-mail address and pricing of different packages. Have fun, we want to go back so bad...:(

Well we just got back from the 7/2 TP cruise and did our waverunner tour with Miki Miki and it was fantastic. They picked us up at the dock by boat, then a stop at a hotel to pick up another couple, and off to our waverunners. Our guide spoke English and my wife and I had a blast.

Only "problems" we faced were no fault of Miki Miki.

1. It was pouring rain... and I mean really coming down. This made the lagoon not really visible, but we had done a snorkel/circle island tour the previous day in the sun, so we had already seen everything.

2. We almost had the couple from hell on our tour. Brazilian couple that we picked up from the hotel. They were 15 minutes late, and when they came out, shrugged it off because "it was raining and we weren't sure if we wanted to go or not." Then once out on the waverunners, the husband stopped the tour, told us all it was too dangerous, and insisted we all cancel the tour. Long and short of it, we had to escort them back to their hotel and everyone else continued.

To make it up to us, we stopped at a motu and then did ATVs free of charge around the island. This was one of my favorite tours while we were there.

I believe cost was $185 per waverunner (with my wife and I sharing).

Just to be clear, Miki Miki and Matira Jet Tours are different operators. I can't speak to Miki Miki, we had a wonderful time with Matira (Ray Besineau) and our guide. Booking by e-mail was the way to go as each of three couples paid a different price, ours was cheapest at $190 for the full tour including Jetski/Waverunner and ATV.

How much was the wave runner tour with Matira? Also, what was the cost for the wave runner/ATV combo tour? Also, if we are interested in doing Bruno's tour, whcih day do you recommend doing each activity?

Isn't Bruno in Raiatea rather than Bora Bora?

We did the waverunners at 10:30 on 2nd day, it was great. If you're doing it on the first day, you'd have to do afternoon. Day 2 is more flexible, you just have to be sure you return in time for the last tender (4 or 4:30 I think). They were concerned with missing the late tender on our trip and recommended the 10:30.

I thought I read that Bruno did a tour on Raiatea and Bora Bora...maybe not. Anyhoo, I just received an email back from Matira and the lady quoted me $200 (for our trip next year) for the jet ski/ATV tour (for 2 people one one jet ski). She also quoted $170 for just the jet ski tour which included 2 stops for swimming and a "coconut show" on a motu.

We did the waverunners with Matira Tours on July 15th. It was the highlight of our trip to Polynesia. We completely circumnavigated the lagoon surrounding Bora Bora. Make certain you bring a camera. When you stop at the family motu for refreshments, there are some great photo opportunities back across the lagoon towards Bora Bora itself. My best photo of the whole trip is one of me standing in front of the waverunner with Bora Bora in the background.

We paid the price you were quoted [$200]. It was expensive, but I don't regret paying that for something I enjoyed so very much.

The so-called "coconut show" consisted of one of the guides climbing a coconut tree, retrieving coconuts, demonstrating how to get the coconut water and milk out, how to get to the coconut meat, etc. They served Polynesian Hotdogs [two slices of banana with coconut in between; quite good].

Also consider the Aqua Safari helmet dive, another highlight.

For both Matira and Miki Miki, do you pay in advance or do you pay when you meet up with the guides? Do they accept local currency and/or US dollars? Thanks!

Miki Miki takes your credit card information when you reserve the tour, but don't charge the card until you're done with the tour.
