Recommended Posts

Anyone with a hotel suggestion for Paris. Good location is important altho looking for moderate price for my daughter and myself for mid June. Perhaps where we can walk out easily from the hotel and see the sights. Thanks to all.

We stayed at a lovely boutique hotel when we were in Paris in 2002. It is called the Queen Mary. The website is
http://www.hotel-paris-queenmary.com/ It is in a great position, very handy to a couple of metros, not far from the Louvre, close to the department stores etc. It is in the Madelaine-Opera district.

I would book one of the larger rooms as bedrooms in Europe are a lot smaller than we are used to.

Lynncruiser,

Mid June is a popular time in Paris. Book as soon as possible.

Select a 3 star hotel, this are usually not too pricey and will offer you the comfort and amenities you need. Paris hotel rooms can be quite tiny, so ask for room size before you book. I wouldn't accept anything smaller than 12 sq. meters minimum. 15 - 18 would be better.

I like to stay in the 6th arrondisement of Paris. There are tons of great restaurants there, you can walk to the Louvre as well as many of sights.

Some of my preferred hotels in the 6th are: Deux Continents, Danube, Prince de Conti, Prince de Conde, The Milleseime, Le Regent.
The one that Aussiegirl posted looks like the typical 3 star hotel that I like. Small and charming and in the $200. price range.
If you can spend a little more, try Hotel Madison on Blvd St. Germaine. Price is higher, though breakfast is included in the price. Others do not include breakfast, though it's cheap in Paris.

Stay away from the chains like Tulip and Ibis. They're very blah and usually in boring areas.

Aussie Gal made a great suggestion and I second it..The Queen Mary.It is a wonderful small hotel and you can walk to a lot of sights as well as the metro is nearby, lots of places to eat, shops etc.Do ask for and book a larger room as they can be quite small.Book ASAP though if you decide to stay there.I love it.

We love The Hotel Napoleon. It is very close to the Arc de Triomphe ( you can almost reach out and touch it from the hotel).. also about at the corner ( just a short - very short walk to) the Champs Elysees( where the hop on hop off bus is - so very convienient, also right at the Metro station E'toille .
This is a beautiful location ..and hotel.
Here is their website ( check to see what specials they have- if you stay so many days they throw in tours, dinners, airport transfer etc. - look at the bottom of the website for promotions or whatever they call it.

I agree with Aussie girl. The 3 star (and even some 2 star) hotels can be a lot of fun and the smaller hotels will really give you a taste of Paris. We prefer staying on the Left Bank (5th or 6th) because its not right in the middle of the noisy commercial center of the city. Our favorite little parisian hotel is called the Hotel Des Grandes Ecoles located on the rue de Cardinal Lemoine in the 5th. The one drawback is that the rooms do not have A/C and I suspect its already booked through the busy summer season. Keep in mind that Paris has a wonderful Metro system so you can pretty much stay anywhere that is close to a Metro Station.

Hank,

I agree with you that the Hotel des Grande Ecoles is a nice hotel.
However, I didn't recommend it because of the reason you gave, no air-conditioning. So it's better for other times a year.

Most of the 3 star hotels do have a/c and with the awful heat wave in France last summer, where 10,000 people died, I wouldn't book a hotel for June without a/c.

But it's a good hotel for people to note for other times of the year.

Thanks to you all. My daughter is making the reservations and I'll email this all to her. She also heard about the Artus Hotel, but seems a little pricier. We'll see what we can do. Many thanks!
