quietmn12 Posted July 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2006 Can anyone tell me more about Kontiki Beach? What facilities they have there, how much it costs to get there by cab, etc? Any information will be helpful!
yemmer Posted August 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2006 We were in Curacao just 2 weeks ago and we went to the beach right next to Kintiki-it was called Mambo beach and it was absolutely beautiful. From the outside it looks like a rundown parking lot but once you walk past the walls it is great. They charge a few dollars to get in and once you get in there are chairs, umbrellas and floats to get. There are bars taht serve food within the walls and it is great. Kontiki was more crowded but I would think very simlar. I highly recommend Mambo Beach.
erbngrl Posted September 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2006 We just went to Kontiki Beach. It was I thinka $10 - 15 taxi ride out there. Again, it looks like nothing from the street, but once you pay your $3/pp you walk into this island paradise. There is a restaurant/bar, tables set up under tiki huts, souvenir shops and then of course the beach is absolutely beautiful! There was no one around looking for us to pay for the chair rentals, but then after about an hour someone came and asked us to pay, $3 - big deal. They did have rentals too of floats. Enjoy! doones2 Posted September 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2006 Does anyone know if you can rent snorkling equipment at either Mambo or Kontiki beach? Its my understanding that you can snorkel right from the beach. Has anyone here done that & if so how was the snorkling. Thanks for any info. Rent-A-Guide Posted September 7, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Curaçao is a "reef island", meaning that you can do shore snorkeling/diving all around it, specifically on the south coast. Depending on your snorkeling experiences you will consider some areas good, interesting or exceptional. At the Mambo beach you will be snorkeling at the water breakers and there is nearly no corals but you will see a lot of fish. There is a dive shop that will rent you equipment. Lsimon Posted January 10, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Are there any beaches a similar distance from the Cruise Ship dock ($10 to $15 cab ride) that has similar features and better snorkeling reefs accessable from the shore?

hildacloake Posted October 11, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 11, 2010 Ok so from what i've read here is that Kontiki is 3 pp to use the beach...anyone know how much is mambo? me and my husband just want to relax and tan and cool off in the water (no snorkling or anything like that). Also, does anyone know if there is public transportation that would go there? It's not very far from the port about 3 miles ...measured it on google earth ;)
Lsimon Posted October 11, 2010 #10 Share Posted October 11, 2010 Wow - this is an old thread resurrrected! Kontiki and Mambo are actually two different beach clubs next to each other on the same beach. You can take a taxi to Kontiki and walk across the property to check out Mambo and decide which one you like more. We picked based on the lunch menu. This area is wonderful, but since going to Kontiki in 2007 we've since discovered Porto Mari on return trips to Curacao. I like Porto Mari more although it is considerably further from the port - about a 20-30 min drive, and the taxi cost there is around $10/pp with a $40/cab minimum each way. hildacloake Posted October 11, 2010 #11 Share Posted October 11, 2010 heard that there is a beach close to the port -- Holiday Beach. There is a hotel and a casino there, and you can just walk through the hotel lobby, walk right through, and you're at the beach. You can buy drinks and lunch there, and use the beach...sounds too good to be true though, so I think we'll go with kontiki or mambo. It's a nice feeling to have lots of options :)

Look carefully in the center and you can see the beach protected by the breakwater in the middle - in between all the industrial stuff around it: If you click on the picture you'll go to my photo site with pictures of Porto Mari. Guess which I'd go to despite one being walking distance and one a $10/pp cab ride away? Kontiki is almost as nice as Porto Mari - see a photo by clicking here - and I don't recall it having any factories in sight.

Lsimon Posted October 16, 2010 #16 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Pics. are awesome, what kind of camera are you using? Thank you - the pictures taken from the ship of Holiday beach and some other shots were from a Panasonic DMC-FZ28. The pictures at Porto Mari were done with a Canon SD870. Both cameras are a couple years old and have been replaced by updated models.

Were you worried about timing? i.e. making it in time.
Lsimon Posted October 18, 2010 #18 Share Posted October 18, 2010 Hi there, how did you get back to the ship? Were you worried about timing? i.e. making it in time. At Porto Mari you have to arrange with the cab drive who takes you there to pick you up as there are no waiting cabs there. We usually arrange for them to come back by mid afternoon so there is plenty of leeway. If one wanted to stay late I'd recommend making sure you're building a extra hour or so into the schedule. I'm not one for cutting things off too close - I don't want to be in a position where I'm worrying about the timing on the way back.
CroozeDrs Posted October 26, 2010 #19 Share Posted October 26, 2010 We were in Aruba about a year-and-a-half ago and we believe we went to Kontiki Beach, as the location & amenties seem familiar. We want to make sure we go back to the same beach since we really enjoyed it. Is this the beach with the large cabana/raised huts with large cushions (looks like a canopy bed) that were available for rental? If so, does anyone know the rate to rent one? Roadtripster Posted October 31, 2010 #24 Share Posted October 31, 2010 Which direction is Kontiki Beach from the pier? I was wondering if anyone knows where the best place to get a cab would be. Right at the pier or should we walk over the bridge into Punda and find one there?
