St Kitts Marriott

My group of 6 is sailing to St. Kitts in November. It will be the first time going there for all of us so hopping on a small boat to go to another island like Nevis doesn’t sound all that great. We have looked around for something to do and none of the ships excursions appeal to us nor have we really seen anything on the websites for St. Kitts. We did see where there is a Marriott there that looks nice and has the largest casino in the Caribbean.

Has anyone been there before to have any suggestions either for against our going there for the day?

Liz,

Thank you for the information. As I said in my post we don't want to go to Nevis as we have never been to St. Kitts before so getting onto another boat to go to another island doesn't seem right. We aren't big on island tours - ship excursions, as we are under 50 and sitting for hours driving from place to place doesn't really do it for us. We like more action than those allow. Perhaps a private tour is the way to go. I will check out the beaches/beach bars you gave me sites for as that is always a good way for the 6 of us to spend some time. (maybe after a quick tour.) That's why we were looking at the Marriott - figured it had a pool/beach with lounges, food and drink. But perhaps some of those you recommended will offer the same.

Resorts for the day are good for our group. We usually go to Sandals when we're in a port as we like the all-inclusive thing and that also affords us the chance to go sailing and windsurfing - both of which I used to teach. I know it doesn't appeal to everyone - that's why ships offer a variety of excursions.

Again, thank you very much for all that information and the links. We will check them out and make a plan!

I have contacted the Marriott and all is well with them if we want to go in and use their facilities. Of course some of your ideas sound as though maybe we would get a little more of the 'local flavor' and really get to see more of St. Kitts.

Is it a nice island in general?

Wow, it does look wonderful! I was with the 5 other people I am sailing with yesterday and we all sat down with the information you sent me and did decide to go ahead and book a private island tour. (That way it's just us and we can spend time where we are interested and bypass those quickly that do nothing for us.)

We are planning on doing that for the AM then going to the Marriott in the afternoon for a bit of R & R and a drink. If you don't mind me asking you one more thing: do you have a place you would recommend for lunch or are we just as smart to snag something at the Marriott? Please keep in mind that two in my group do not eat seafood of any type at all. (And I am one of them.) So we do need a place that has anything that is not from the ocean.

:) THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!! :)

Might I ask if there's a fee for using the facilities at the Marriott, i.e. pool, etc. - thanks! We are planning on taking a cab over in Dec.

We are paying $75 for a room for the day which they are allowing 6 of us to share. And we are entitled to use all of their facilities. We figure $12.50 per person for the day is a bargain - and the Marriot told us that the cab ride was $2.50 per person.

I just got back from a cruise that included St Kitts. We did a private island tour by taxi van in the morning. We saw Romney Gardens, Caribelle Batik and Brimstone Hill Fortress, along with some other really cool things along the way.

Then we asked our driver to take us to lunch somewhere where there wouldn't be any other cruise passengers. He took us to the Turtle Beach Bar & Grill. No other passengers, just a few crew members. Good food, and a great spot! And I don't eat seafood or fish, either. I think I had either a hamburger or a BLT.

TN Cruise Traveler,

We have spent the day, and actual vacations, at Sandals resorts before and always had a great time. Our ship also stops in Antigua and we have made arrangements to spend the day at an all-inclusive. We looked around the St. Kitts websites and the Marriott appears to be the largest resort on the island with the most amenities so that appeals to us and we made the decision to go there if they would allow it. We like to work out, sail, windsurf, jet ski, etc. so having options other than simply sitting on the beach or by the pool appeals to us. Actually I'm not sure there is a Sandals on St. Kitts.

Hi!

Do you remember how much your tour cost? Do you remember your driver's name? Did you book this tour prior to your cruise? Thanks for the info.

I just called the hotel 1(869)466-1200 asking about a day pass for my February cruise and was quoted a price of $120 including taxes for the use of a standard room, pool, beach, towels etc. I asked if the price was per person or per room and the lady said per room. She also said that reservations are not required but I should call a week before and let them know I'm coming. When arriving at the hotel just go to the reception area and pay for the room.

Why not do a preview of the new timeshare resort they are breaking ground for right next door and negotiate free use the hotel facilities plus the standard $100 shopping certificate you will get for sitting through the preview? Plus they will probably pay the taxi cost both way! We had this deal at St. Thomas Marriott at Fishermens Reef just last week.

That was the new Marriott St. Kitts Beach Club timeshare. I failed to mention it was the Marriott.
