spyro1952 Posted December 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2006 :( The Sun returned this morning to Ft. Lauderdale with > 10% of passegers having suffered or suffering from norovirus. I live in Ft. Lauderdale and it was on the news this morning. In fact, over the past week at least 3 ships returning to either Miami or Port Everglades have had reportable outbreaks. The CDC is also reporting that Florida currently has one of the highest flu rates in the country. So cruisers, wash your hands very frequently throughout the day; only use your bathroom in your stateroom; and take plenty of hand sanitizer with you and use it frequently throughout the day. This is your best defense against this type of illness.

chrysalis Posted December 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2006 Would a flu shot help prevent norovirus? no, a shot does not help, but common sense and doing the stuff in Post #1 goes a long way to preventing it.
spyro1952 Posted December 10, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted December 10, 2006 No, norovirus is typically what you would call 24-48 hr stomach virus. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Flu shots, although re-formulated every year, prevent flu virus which mainly attacks the upper respiratory system preventing fever, cough, colds, viral bronchitis, and viral pneumonia.
