madhouseinc Posted December 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2006 I just read TSA's restrictions and found that only booze with less than 70 proof will be allowed in the checkin luggage. Thinking that will cause me not to even buy in St. Thomas - anyone have any experience with that?
GottaLuvCruising Posted December 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2006 Wow! I've never heard that. I just left the NCL Pearl and lots of folks purchased liquor to take home. This will certainly complicate things for folks who want to take advantage of the duty free liquor on board and in port. I'll be anxious to hear what happens now. johnql Posted December 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 24, 2006 This isn't right. I just checked the TSA site. Here's the link to the "Prohibited and Permitted Items" page: http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/prohibited-and-permitted-items.pdf The rule is that "more than 70 percent alcohol content (140 proof) is prohibited from carry-on and checked luggage." Alcohol - Carry-on - Checked Brought from outside the security checkpoint - NO - Yes unless in 3 ounce containers or smaller, carried in a 1 quart (1 liter), plastic zip-top bag.* Bought Inside the security checkpoint* - Yes - Yes *More than 70 percent alcohol content (140 proof) is prohibited from carry-on and checked luggage. Up to 5 liters of alcohol with alcoholic content between 24 percent and 70 percent are allowed per person as carry-on if bought inside checkpoint.
