does anybody know with these being above the arcade and the Club O2

will there be any noise issues?

thanks!

We stayed in 6336 last year, and we got a good bit of noise from down below. Mainly it was the country singer, who was on the sie of the casino over near the arcade adn club 02 area. It wasn't anything real horrible, but you could still hear him singing way into the early hours of the morning. If we hadn't been so beat from all the activities and ports I may have had trouble sleeping. This time we are going, deck 7.

Does anyone know what time the gym area opens in the morning? Also what hours is breakfast served in the dining room and buffet?

Breakfast in DR is from 8 to 10. the buffet from 7:30 to 10:30. Gym opens at 6 am to 8pm. This info according to capers from Oct.

Regarding rum....Grand Cayman has the best prices that I've seen. I always pick up a couple of bottles right at the pier area. Last year I picked up Barbancourt 15 yr old for $15 (about $38 at Specs in Hou) and a bottle of 12 yr old Havana Club (can't buy in the States) for $15....not that I would bring any Cuban product into the States!

Can't wait to go back in September to get some more good stuff!

Does anyone know just how early coffee is served, or self served. Not any cappichino, frappachino, or any other fancy coffee, just plain coffee. My dad and hubby are VERY early risers,(probably getting up just as others are turning in) and have to have their am coffee. we were just wondering if there is 24 hour coffee, otherwise, we will do the room service thing.

thanks

I believe they can place a room service order to have a pot of coffee delivered to their cabin at a specific time in the morning. I may do that next time.

Which is better EZ Parking or Lighthouse Parking? Security?

Thanks,

Debby

I have parked at both of them. Their prices are identical. We used EZ parking for our cruise in 2005 and were not very impressed with them. If not for my print-out of the pre-paid reservation, they almost did not let us park. When we returned from our cruise, they forgot to get all of their rental vans and buses, so they only had one vehicle to transport hundreds of people back to their lot. We waited in the hot sun for nearly 2 hours before they had enough room to load all of our stuff.

We parked at Lighthouse for our cruise in 2006. Same price. Friendlier service. Seemed to be more organized.

I've heard good things about EZ, so I'm sure we just got them on a bad day. I'll stick with Lighthouse parking for now though.

Hey Gang!!!

We are lloking at booking the Conquest for the end of May or sometime in June. I know it's not the best time to book, but my husband and I teach, so we have to travel during breaks. We have two families that will be traveling from central Mississippi to Galveston. We have not booked yet, but we are trying to get everything in order before hand. We will be driving in on Saturday before the cruise leaves on Sunday. Does anybody out there have any hotel suggestions for Saturday night. Also, I've read a lot about parking, and it seems somewhat confusing. I'm wondering how different things are after the hurricane. I'm used to cruising out of New Orleans, so all of this is new--the ship, the travel--EVERYTHING!!! Any help/information that you could give would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

Hotels are pretty sparse on Galveston, and very expensive if you can find one. We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Texas City and really liked it a lot. It's only 10 miles from Galveston, so it doesn't take long to get to the pier in the morning. The island has been pretty devastated by Hurricane Ike, so I'm not sure how long it will take before most of the hotels and restaurants are all back in business.

As far as parking, don't stay at the pier. They will charge you at least $70 - $80 to park there for the week. Go online to either EZ Cruise Parking or Lighthouse Cruise parking. They both give you a slight discount if you book and pre-pay online. Same price. They both have free shuttle service to/from the pier.

Does anyone know if we have the use of the mini fridge for our own personal soft drinks? My mom is a TAB drinker and of course bringing her own with her. (thank goodness Carnival allows it!)

But, she'd like them to be cold on the cruise - so is there a mini fridge in the room and if so, room to add our own items?

Thanks! 6 days until we sail on the conquest!!!!

Tracey

While there are mini fridges in all of the rooms, don't count on it keeping anything cold. They're more of a "chiller". We spent time taking out all of the pre-stocked beverages and putting our own stuff in it. Nothing ever got cold. You can get all of the free ice that you want in your cabin. I'd suggest you pack a small cooler and just put your drinks on ice to chill them.

After the Conquest arrives back in Galveston, tomorrow, it is going into drydock, The Seaside theater will be added. We are leaving on the Conquest Feb. 15th. We were booked into a 6E...noticed yesterday it had been changed to an 8F. My understanding is they are changing these "family" staterooms, into balcony rooms while in drydock.

What's the Seaside Theater everyone keeps talking about? I'm suddenly getting excited about being back on the newly renovated Conquest. Maybe it WILL feel like we're on a new ship. What other changes are being done while it's in dry dock? Will the deck plan on the Carnival website be changed to reflect all of their changes?

My husband and I are considering this cruise for 2009 since we live in Texas. Has anyone stayed in a balcony room on this ship and which deck do you prefer?

We stayed on the Verandah deck back in October 2006 and really loved the location. We had cabin 8284 which was relatively close to the main glass elevators. It was quiet, and we had an awesome view.

Always look at what will be right above and below you before you pick your cabin. If possible, having cabins above and below you is best. Being too near some of the big theaters may be noisy late with music.

I know this is the Conquest thread, but I'm curious about this Appleton Rum; why is it so special? Why don't they sell it in the states? Best rum I've found so far is Mount Gay from Barbados.

They do sell Appleton Rum in the States and it's pretty close to the same price. We have it in our local liquor store and you can also buy it online.

If you go to the Deck Plan for Conquest, Upper deck, hover your mouse over one of the 9A aft wraps. A unique url appears at the bottom of your web browser, different from the standard balcony cabins. But when you click on it, it says the web site is under construction. Hmmm....

I read somewhere on here that the Conquest used to have third berths in the 9A wraps on deck 6. Why were they removed? Liberty and Freedom have them, but not Conquest, Glory or Valor. Seems to me it's in Carnival's best interest to put a convertible sofa in all the 9As that would hold them, as they could charge more for the 3rd than in a traditional balcony cabin.

As posted in other threads, changes during drydock:

Movies Under the Stars - 12' x 22' Theater screen w/70,000 watt sound system on Lido Deck

Flat screen tvs in all staterooms

6E OV staterooms on Spa Deck converted to balconies (already reflected on deck plan)

Bow to Stern internet access

Mongolian Grill (also on deck plan at carnival.com)

New mattresses, bedding

New carpet, paint, other touch ups

Re: Shiner Bock, so you can buy these in the bars until sailaway, and then they stash them all???

Thank you

Has anyone taken the starfish tour on one cruise and the Rum Point tour on another? Is Rum point worth the extra $22 or so? Or would the extra time be better spent looking around town?

I have not done the starfish tour..

We booked independently through Nativeway...and did the Reef, Rays, and Rum Point tour...So we went out to the stingrays and interacted with them, and took pics, etc...then we went near a reef and snorkeled, (those that wanted to), then we went to Rum Point...

You will have to decide if you would rather be at the beach or look around town...

Rum Point is a cute little beach area with a bar and gift shop....I would rather be there than walking around town, but that is me...Have a great time!! Loved Cayman!!

Correct....the minute the ship sets sail they pull them all from the shelf. Some crazy Texas law.

Man, you gotta love the TABC! I miss Florida (used to live in Viera, near Port Canaveral) where you can buy beer at 7:00AM on a Sunday morning! (To be consumed afternoon, of course!) and all the restaurants have two for one specials (outlawed in the Lone Star State)

Yeah, I don't get it. But in Texas we can give alcohol to our kids or underage spouses :) Very logical.
