aussieg Posted February 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Does anyone know if you are aloud to use a hair straightening iron in your cabin as I know they have strict rules about cloth irons.
catl331 Posted February 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2007 I believe curling and straightening irons are OK because they don't get hot enough to be a danger. I'd say bring it, but check with your cabin steward before using it. :) p.s. - Welcome to the HAL board! :D

traveller123 Posted February 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2007 I used my curling iron every evening before dinner and left it on the desk to cool down. When I got back after dinner the room steward had put it away in a drawer. Apparently, curling irons are o.k. on board.
Birdiegk1 Posted February 15, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Almost all electrical hairstying equipment today have automatic shut off after a certain period of time, I don't see any problems.......I will be taking mine!! :)
TheOrginalMrsSmith Posted February 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2007 I used mine on the Zuiderdam in November without problem. Left it on the vanity so the stewart saw it and nothing was ever said to me.
Candy Posted February 15, 2007 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Although you cannot use the outlet in the bathroom (its for shavers only) curling irons are OK. I usually unplug it and slide it under the bathroom sink on the tile floor, so if the steward comes in right away he won't burn himself by acccident, and it won't roll around and melt anything. He then rolls it up and puts it on the shelf. Candy the ZuiderPrincess <-- just booked Zuidy
wizard-of-roz Posted February 15, 2007 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Humid weather in Mexico and the Caribbean can make me look like alfalfa faster than it grows....... Without my curling iron you wouldn't want to know this woman!!!! Bring it; use it and be beautiful! :D
Aussie Gal Posted February 16, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2007 I use a hot brush and have never had any trouble with using it on board ship. You will be fine. I gather you are from Oz by your name, so take your adaptor for Europe as there are two electrical outlets in the cabin, one is for 110Volts and takes a U.S. plug and the other is for 220 volts and takes the European plug. Miss Jolly Posted February 18, 2007 #11 Share Posted February 18, 2007 Thanks everyone for your quick answers and aussie gal for your tip on adapters My wife aad i are going on our first cruise on the nordham to alaska may 13 cant wait I am also from Australia and posted a thread recently re the power voltage on board. I was told that there were both European and American points. I was also given a great tip - take an Australian powerboard - that way you can plug in several appliances (phone ,video, camera etc) at once and only need one adapter to do so. Just watched 60 Minutes tonight about the troubles of the Polar Bears. Enjoy Alaska while it's in a positive state. Jennie
caribbean girl Posted February 18, 2007 #12 Share Posted February 18, 2007 I brought (and always have!) my flat iron on the Noordam for the 2/7 cruise and there was no problem. Just remember to put it somewhere where the steward won't burn himself, though I think perhaps from past experience, they are aware to be careful with that stuff. The cabins have two types of outlets to accomodate each appliance and there is a small but quite adequate hair dryer as well. I hope you have a wonderful cruise with beautiful hair!;)
