Must See in Bangkok ???

Bangkok is not an easy city to get around as everything is separated and the traffic is impossible.

I would say the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Prah Keow), for one. the Temple of the Golden Buddha a close second, and thirdly a ride on the Thornburi Klongs (Canals).

Bangkok is an exciting city though very hot and humid and this would be more than enough to see in one day.

For the sheer sake of ease, you might want to see if your cruiseline is offering any excursions. We were there two days early and took one on our full day and another on the embarkation day and they worked out wonderfully. The embarkation day, we went to the Palace, the Golden Buddah and toured the canals before heading to our ship. By the time we got there, the crowds had passed and we literally walked onto the ship. It wsa the easiest embarkation we'd ever had.

I did a lengthy review for the Pacific Princess that gives all the highlights of Bangkok if you'd like more info. Or you can contact me via e mail (charliekirby@comcast.com) and I'll be glad to try and answer any questions you might have.

We adored Bangkok and I hope to go back again. The people are wonderful and very tourist orientated!

Cheers!

We will be in Bangkok for one day precruise in October. What are the must sees ?

To avoid the notorious Bangkok traffic, why don't you consider taking a half-day tour on the Chao Phraya River Tourist Boat? It stops at 10 piers which will take you to many tourist attractions like the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, etc. A day pass costs only 100 Thai Baht (US$3) and allows unlimited rides from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can board it at the Sathorn Pier underneath the Skytrain station at Taksin Bridge. Tickets are available at the pier and at most skytrain stations.

And yes, a foot massage would be nice - but why don't you go for the full royal treatment? Ask the hotel to book you a 2-hour traditional Thai massage. I'm sure you'll get addicted!

As someone who as lived in BKK, my advice would be get a cab or if your feeling adventerous get a motercycle taxi which is a lot quicker, the grand palace. Next door is Wot Poh which is also good and the home of Thai massage and is very cheap. From there get a long tail boat down the river - its more expensive but they will take you through the back canals as well as the river so you will see the real BKK. Ask them to drop you at Jim Thompson house which is good. This will be more than enough for one day

Chao Praya River Express is cheap and fun to take. Just get off anywhere you feel like it, and experience Bangkok. I could kill half a day getting on and off those river boats, for a lot of fun!

depend on how many hours you have in BKK. If you have a full day, go Option1, few hours, do option 2 or 3

#1, In the morning, take taxi to Grand Palace, then take a 5 minutes walk to Wat Po. (you can see both places within 3 hours or less). Take taxi to chinatown for Lunch (15 minutes taxi ride from wat po and cost less than $2 us), after lunch take 5 minutes Taxi ride to Golden Buddle temple (or you can walk, but taxi is so cheap in BKK, no reason to walk). In the afternoon, spent you day shopping at Siam Center area. You will find multiple shopping malls AC within 3 block area. If you want to try thai message, you will see that all over the area. 200 tB per hours ($6 us)

#2. visit Grand Palace, Wat Po

#3. shopping at Siam Center. Try some thai message for $6 an hour.
