purchase chips in casino

You could always buy casino credits with your credit card now, and then when you board you can cash them in and use them.

That's what I do-then there is no 3% added on to my bill.

Why is this preferable to simply bringing cash to the casino and getting chips from the dealer?

When you cash in your chips, is the value credited to your account or are you given cash?

It's just a way to avoid carrying extra cash which is always susceptible to being lost or stolen.

Possibly a good approach for some. Be sure, though, to first check with your CC company. Some have a surcharge for cash advances.

We bought casino credits for our most recent cruise. They worked slick. The only thing I'll change is the name we put them under. We put them all in my name, which meant I had to sign for them all. Here's how it worked for us.

Called Princess and bought our gift casino cards a couple of months before our cruise. They were charged to our credit card right away (the advantage is that we were able to pay that off before we got on the boat). In our room the "gift certificates" were waiting for us.

We'd take the "gift certificates" they were more like cards, to the cashier window. I'd sign my name, the casino would cross reference the certificate, the teller gave me cash. I could do with that cash as I wanted.

This saved us from having to carry a wad of cash around, and since the casino was open most nights it became an easy ATM for us.

Not sure how well it works if you were in a heavily island area, like Hawaii, or Tahiti (because I'm not sure of international gaming laws in national or international waters on whether the casino is open or not.)

Just wanted to share my experience.

Have fun on your cruise.

Since you are ordering them from Princess, I do not believe that the CC company considers them a cash advance, since you don't get cash directly.

Yes, you are correct. It is a purchase on your credit card-not a cash advance.

Any UK cruisers beware! If you buy anything using the gift system even though the charge appears to be in US dollars, they will change the charge themselves into pounds. I ordered some booze and we paid way over the top by Princess using their "we'll do the exchange rate" scam!

I took your post under advisment and Yesterday morning I purchased some casino credits to use on the ship. (love that no fee part) AND I told my travel friend to do the same thing. Less cash to carry and it will make life easier in case we decide to take an extra stop at the casino during the week. (I love that no fee part) Though I used my debit card as my Amex will melt soon if I use it any more . :) And my friend used her CC no issues either way. (love that no fee part) Thanks for the tip.

Did I say I love that no fee part??
