Legend Review 4/15/2007 extremely long

Here is my review of our cruise last week. Any questions, just ask.

Just got off the Legend yesterday and here is my review.

First, I cannot blame Carnival for the weather. The front that caused the nor’easter blew over our house at 10 in the morning. After it blew over we got into the car and drove to the port (45 minutes). Dropped off the car with the valet and proceeded to get on board. No problem with the initial security and went to find the VIP check in. This was a disaster! It was a little area just off the general check in line and there was a line there that was long with only 2 agents working it. We should have gotten in line with the general boarding people because they were getting on board quicker than us. We waited and waited because some of the people ahead of us did not have all the information needed filled out or proper ID. Saw some of the general boarding agents come to VIP area to get some peoples packets. Carnival has to fix this. There were a lot of people who were mad. Once we got to the agent (45 minutes) it took 10 minutes to get all of all things and board. It took about 4 hours after we checked in to get our luggage. This was the ugly part of the trip.

Now the good things which is a long list.

Got to our room (6178) and found it to be in great shape. We decided to go to the buffet and have a bite to eat and the selection of food was the best we have ever experienced on our prior cruises. So many varieties and very tasty. After the embarkation debacle, things were looking up. My wife decided that she wanted to set up spa appointments as well as a personal trainer for the trip. I think she set a world record for purchases in the first hour on board. Oh well, she deserves it for putting up with me. Besides I could spend a lot in the casino and not get yelled at! Went back to the cabin and met our steward, Roger from India, and told him what we wanted and he took care it very quickly. Now we forgot about the hassle in the embarkation and started to have a good time. We were 1 hour late departing do to people who had delayed flights into Tampa. No big deal. Did the muster drill and met the rest of the CC roll call at the Dream Team Bar. A fine bunch of people who could finally place faces to each other. Saw them throughout the cruise.

We had the early seating at dinner so we went down and met our table mates. These people were the best people we have ever met on a cruise. So, if Dick and Phyllis, Jim and Vicki and Ed and Joyce are reading this, you cannot be equaled. We got along so well with each other that I did not want to go to supper club. Our waiter, Wilbur from India, and his assistant, Silva, were excellent. The food was good, not the best we ever had, but we finished it all. The desserts were excellent. Ordered two at times and took them back to the cabin for a late night snack. Embarkation was totally forgotten.

Time for port discussions:

Grand Cayman never got a chance to go ashore. Even though it looked fine, the port was closed. There was the Carnival Valor, Star Princess, and a RCCL ship that were also not allowed to go ashore. Those ships just sat there anchored off the coast. We picked up some late luggage and turned around headed to Cozumel. That was probably good because you would just sit there and think of what you could have been doing. Since we have been there a lot of times it was no great loss for us, but others were disappointed. We did get a $25 credit per person for missing it.

Cozumel, we have also been there a few times. Glad to see that it has gotten back to normal there. The last time we were there, the place was just starting to recover from the hurricane. They did a great job in getting it together. We just walked around, bought a few things for our son and got back on the ship. Our table mates went to the beach, took dune buggies and said they had a great time.

Belize, I played golf on a private island. It was a blast. You have to take a plane to the place, and they a spot in the plane where you can ride in the co pilots spot. I did that on the way back. If you are a golfer this trip is worth every penny. Had a great time with all who took it. My wife took the air boat ride and city tour (she was over her sea sickness two days earlier). She said it was great and got her hair done for $10. Our table mates went diving or rented dune buggies and all had a great time.

Costa Maya, we went to the ruins of Chacchoben. We chose that one because the ride there was only an hour and whole tour was 4 hours. The other trip to the other ruins was a two hour bus ride each way. It was something that you all have to do.

Overall review: The shows were pretty good. They had to scramble to put one together since some of the entertainers were supposed to get on board in Grand Cayman. They put together a show of the Blues Brothers which was very good, missed some of the comic shows, but saw one and he was good. My compliments to the cruise director and his staff. We loved the Bathrobes and Beer get together. You cannot miss this one. The last night was the Carnival Legends concert with guests imitating singers. Little did I know that my golf partner did Frank Sinatra. And he was excellent. As in Sinatra’s style, I bought him and his wife some cocktails after his performance.

The Casino has everything you want. Had a good time there even though I left a sizable donation.

The rest of the staff in the buffet, casino and bars were are always cordial and served you fast and with a smile.

Now the bad:

It was a rough ride once we got outside of Tampa Bay. It was a literal rock and roll ride. The winds were over 40 knots and seas were rough. Rough enough for my wife to get sea sick. Again, cannot blame Carnival for this but it probably had an effect on some first time cruisers. It finally calmed down after we got south of Cuba. The wife was still under the weather, so I bought all the stuff in the gift shop to help her get over it. I was not alone; they put the sea sick bags at each elevator.

The only bad thing that happened to us was a strange odor in our bathroom. Thought it was from the sea sickness of the wife, but I was wrong. They kept spraying it with some chemicals but it kept coming back. I kept complaining about it. It took them 4 days to figure it out. Since we had a Cat 12 room a very bad odor was coming out the bidet. We did not use it, or for that matter, do not know how to use it.

We will go back on the Legend. As I said in previously, cannot fault Carnival for the weather, rough seas and missing the port.

Hope all of you who sail on this ship have a good time

I will post this on the cruise review section of CC.

Hello Scott

Thanks for the Quick review of the Legend. I am on the Legend the 20th of May. Took this same cruise last year on the Miracle..ANy ways, Can I ask you why the port was closed in GC?

The GC port was Georgetown. They tried to tie up on the south side of the island but it was full with the Valor, Star Princess and a RCCL ship. So they picked up some luggage that did not make it Tampa and off we went on a slow trip to Cozumel. It was nice being on the sea and not looking at were you could have been for 8 hours.

We have been very "iffy" ever since they told us we had been switched from the Miracle (we went out on her last year, our first cruise, and were totally impressed). Good to hear that if we get good weather (May 6), we are probably in for another great time!

Sorry you have a lot of rock and rolling, we had that over Thanksgiving on the Sensation, not fun.

Hi Scomyrwil, thanks for the review. It would have been nice if I could have written one myself:rolleyes: For others that don't know (long story short) We were booked on this Legend cruise and we had to cancel. I am glad everyone got to meet.

I thought Myrla was going to do the cave tubing:confused: Was she not up to it?

I am going to wait until we get our refund (we had insurance) and then book for the same week on the Legend next year. At least now I have done all of my homework and know what excursions to book etc.

Thanks so much for the review! I am glad your wife enjoyed the Airboat ride. I had posted to find out about it but apparently nobody has done that one. That is one we were booking.

Can't wait until August!

Tell me more about your golf trip. Did you go thru the ship/private? The more info the better. I booked cave tubing however my DH would be so surprised if I set him up with this ... he is a golfer for sure :)

Thank you in advance.

The golf trip was booked through Carnival. The total cost is $235.00. This includes the plane ride which was $120. So not a bad deal. The course is beautiful and the pro plays with you. So it is like getting a playing lesson, which if you got one at our club it costs well over $100. Worth every penny. Take a camera because some of the views are great.

I went on the Carnival site but they have no golf trip listed under the belize excursions. Any suggestions?

Oh, did you have to bring your own golf clubs or do they supply them?

Would ruin the surprise if he had to bring his clubs ...

Was this WILBUR?

He served us on the Legend in 2004 and was great - we also saw him last month on the Legend - we just missed being in his section...

Thanks for your review!!

Go to the carnival golf web site.

www.carnivalgolf.com Then you can see what is offered on the cruise. They also had a trip to the Cozumel Country Club. Played there before. You can call their toll free number to reserve a spot.

The cost of rental clubs (which are great clubs) is $35.00. Golf shoes, golf gloves, golf balls are extra. If you want to surprise him, just pack his shoes, glove and bring some golf balls. You can save a lot of money by bringing these. They charge a lot for these things.

The pro also has lessons for $40 for a half hour. He can hit those clubs to see how they feel and the pro will set him up with the clubs for the trip.

Hope this helps,:)

Great review, glad to see the Legend is going to be fun for us as we set sail on her on 5/20

Now in regards to this "Beer & Bathrobe Party" do tell a lil more.... :)

Sorry bout you guys not getting a chance to check out Grand Cayman...

I noticed you had a Cat. 12 and we do as well, other than the odor in the bathroom, how was the suite otherwise? More than enough closet space? Laid out well? Any other info in regards to the Cat. 12 specs would be appreciated.

Thanks again...

That's Wilbur!

He and Slyvia were looking after us on the same sailing but on the late sitting (it's a small world Scott!).

They were fantastic - it felt like leaving new friends by the end of the week.

By the way, good review Scott.

Yes, that was our waiter and assistant. We were at table 210. They were very helpful in selections as well as service. Our table compensated them handsomely. Too bad our blue team did not win the overall competition. Oh well, I did not win in the casino either! Glad you had a good time.

In regards to the review, beachh2o did a great one also. Did you go to the bathrobe and beer party? By far the best time we ever had on the ship!

Take care, may our paths cross again.:)
