Sun Princess cruise cancelled ?

Postings on this board claim that the April 7 , 2008 cruise of the Sun Princess is cancelled , but I just phoned Princess and was told that this cruise is still on .

 

What is the story ?

From what I have read, Princess has alerted Australia residents of this cruise being cancelled (who in turn alerted others on their sailing over on the roll call section), but has yet to let the cat out of the bag for the U.S. Stay tuned, there should be a formal announcement any day now. :(

:( Sad is right. Two lovely ladies that DH and I met on the Dawn in January had booked this "cruise of a lifetime" as they called it. I sent Carol and Linda (waunabcruizin) an email when we read the news; they are understandably very disappointed.

 

Along with this announcement is the piggy-backed report that the lovely Dawn Princess will not be sailing from the west coast but will be doing more exotic itineraries. Until DH retires, we are limited to 7-10 night cruises to warm climates during the winter and aren't quite ready to give sacrifice our Michigan summers to do an Alaskan itinerary. We may have to do an encore sailing on the Dawn in the very near future; we loved that ship :) .

I feel so bad for all of those passengers booked on the Sun. Chances are this cruise is cancelled, it is no longer listed on the Princess website. Yesterday it was listed but there was a Princess number to call for information. Today it is not even listed. Princess seems to be dancing around the issue when these customer service reps tell you that it is not cancelled. I would tend to believe what is said on these boards.

As usual, all that this demonstrates that a company's reservations and customer relations staff are usually the last people to find out about this sort of thing. Phoning Princess (or any other cruise line) to find out what is happening in a rapidly-changing situation is usually the best place to get out-of-date information.

 

The cancellation seems to be a necessary consequence of something that's been officially said by Princess to the specialist trade press, for example Seatrade Insider (free registration required) - this page is the relevant story, once you've registered.

Believe me..our cruise is well and truly cancelled..:mad: I have the official letter from Princess here offering some onboard credit and their apologies.:mad:

 

We have a wonderful TA who is on the ball with this information. She has forwarded the letter of offer to all of us on the roll call.

 

Oh well...we will rebook now and start a new roll call and try again on another cruise from here in Australia.

 

We are all now waiting for confirmation of alternative cruises that we have been offered etc.

 

Such a disappointment, but there is nothing further we can really do, so we have to make the best of it now. We will mourn the lovely cruise that was not to be ...and we will be sad not to catch up with the 100+ roll call buddies at the pre cruise party in Sydney...:( :(

 

We have luckily had a few of them trying to book the Sun Princess with us for next May thru Asia.
