Look at the Crown today!

Just got off the Crown (still sad about that) - and if you think the Statue of Liberty is neat, wait til you go under the Verrazano Bridge. Try to get to the front of the boat - preferably the bridge. It is amazing!!!!

Also, as you are sailing towards the bridge, the NY Police helicopters fly around the ship and wave to you.

Enjoy your cruise!!!!

This might be a little off topic but back in 1965 when I sailed from New York to LaHarve on the SS France, we too had a helicoptor escort as we left New York. He was taking pictures of the ship and just before we got to the Verrazano bridge he hovered low over the bow and dropped a package containing the undeveloped film. The pictures taken were then made available for sale as a very nice souvenir of our voyage.

awesome. i've only been to New York once (i'm VERY loyal to Boston), and missed out on the Statue of Liberty.

can't wait to see it August 28th!! (not so happy about seeing it on the return on Sept 6th, hahah)

the webcams are definitely my new cruise-related obsession. :D

It's docked in NYC and what a great shot of the Statue of Liberty. Can't wait for AUG. 1st!! Hope the link works.

Sure is a great shot. I can see it right now from my office window (the statue, not the ship unfortunately). I wish it were already Aug. 1 and I was standing on that bridge taking pics.

Hmm...I thought I saw that wedding couple yesterday. I guess they're doing a back to back? :D

See ya there, oraf

I posted this on my roll call (8/1)

I post a picture of the ship from a webcam in manhattan everytime its in port.. kills me that its only 90 miles away, or 53 days.. either way..

this was taken eralier, it must be really muggy or humid in the city because it is hard to see anything

the second photo was taken from the webcams a few weeks ago (just so you can get an idea)

the two others were taken by someone in our 8/1 roll call from the Jersey side.

kafitty,

As soon as you enter the pier area in Red Hook you can clearly see the Statue of Liberty to the front of the ship as she is docked.

Be on deck when she sails out of NY Harbor to get the best view point looking up at the V. Bridge -- awesome! C. Princess bearly fits under the bridge at her highest point on the bridge! Passengers literally cheer at the moment the ship goes under the bridge.

Don't worry about missing the Statue any more because she is right in front of you if you are on the "Odd Number" side of the boat (I get confused with port/aft/starboard).

Enjoy!!!!

Starboard side, while the Crown is docked. Been there/done that -- and am doing it again in October!!!! :D

This sounds sooooooooooo cool! Do the helicopters fly around the ship for each sailing, do you know? As I read your post, I got goose bumps. October can't get here fast enough!

I imagine they do it for every cruise. It is really neat. The first pass we thought nothing of it but the second time around I noticed they were waving at us. How cool is right. I was kinda happy about that because I was sorta sad that the sailaway would not be like in Ft. Lauderdale where the people stand on the beach and wave and stuff. Don't miss it. And REALLY try to get to the ship's bridge as you go under the Verrazzano Bridge. DH got up there - I stayed behind with our group on the balcony - and the pictures are awesome. Have a great time!!!

We just got off the Crown on this last sailing and I had read about going under the Verrazzano Bridge and it was recommended to go to the highest point which turns out to be deck 19 at the golf area. It's towards the back of the ship but has the highest vantage point and the visual is amazing since it doesn't look like there is any way that ship can fit. It's a major high. Give it a try!
