Captain Zodiac Questions

Aloha,

We just returned this week from our cruise and did Captain Zodiac while in Kona. It is an absolute blast! Snorkeling is usually better in the morning, so I would suggest that. I have a bad back...herniated disks and arthritis...and I did great. I sat in the back on the way out to Captain Cook's monument and was fine. We saw a pod of pilot whales on the way there and a pod of bottlenose dolphins on the way back. The visability was fantastic. Have a great time!!!

Does it seem better to do the Captain Zodiac tour in the morning or afternoon? How long are you gone? Also, has anyone with neck or back problems done it and felt ok?

Thanks!

You can use the search feature (limit the search to the Hawaii board) to find dozens of posts about snorkeling on Kona, including Captain Zodiac. To get you started, here is a link to two recent threads:

We have found that snorkeling anywhere is generally better in the mornings. I know posters here with back problems have discussed Captain Zodiac, and just how rough the 40-50 mph speedboat ride is, so you should find helpful information there.

http://www.fair-wind.com/ (you will see much discussion of Fair Wind, which visits Kealakekua Bay, in the snorkeling threads for Kona -- their other catamaran, the Hula Kai, also does south Kona coast snorkeling tours)

The companies NCL uses may not accept an outside reservation for the days the ships are in port, as they have contracts with NCL. This has been reported several times for Captain Zodiac.

Hope this helps in your research!
