Cost of White Pass Railway

According to web-site, it's $89 if you book direct. When I e-mailed them, they said it's generally only $5 - $10 more to book thru cruise ship, BUT someone on another forum said it's $139 to book White Pass via Carnival. Help, if it's really $50 more person, I'll definitely pre-book since there are 4 of us going. Does anyone have the scoop?

Couldnt get the Carnival site to work to price it out. There are several White Pass Railroad options so maybe they were on a different tour than just the railway. Theres usually just the railway, railway/bus, railway/bike, etc.

It's $98 on Royal Caribbean.

I considered booking it direct with the RR, but in looking at their website it seemed to me that they were upfront in saying that cruise passengers would get preferences, perhaps in seating or in other ways. Based on that the idea of saving $11 just wasn't worth it.

When I looked at the RR website, it seemed they were inferring that the cruise customers would get some kind of preferential treatment, either in seating or boarding, or both.

I just felt the $11 savings wasn't worth it.

I spoke with the railroad directly and they said it was only a few dollars more to book directly with Carnival. If you book directly through Carnival the train pulls down to the ship and you can get on directly there. If you purchase through the railroad you have to walk approximately 1/2 mile to the station. My Mom and I are cruising together in August and walking long distances at one time are a concern with her at times, so we are going to book directly through the ship. I did mention my concern with lady I spoke with about the tour selling out (this is the only thing my Mom mentioned that she really wants to do) and she said that Carnival has lots of seats reserved.

Our ship stops in Haines instead of Skagway and the ship isn't offering the Whitepass RR as an excursion. Does anyone know of an independent tour company that sells the train/bus combo. We will be in Haines for 12 hours so we will have plenty of time to ferry over to Skagway.

There was quite a bit of difference in the quality of some of the rail cars. We were glad we got on early and were able to get seats in one of the cars with much larger windows.
